Ham ribbing Alonso for slow reaction bc of his age was funny.

When someone has a moment, could you explain the phenomenon of charging batteries?

The cars are hybrid and have batteries they can charge and then deploy to add about 80 or so horsepower. It’s used for passing and defending.

So basically the only thing that can slow down Max at all is an act of god. Even a damn bird in his brake duct couldn’t stop him

I'm not an engineer, so I can only explain it in simple terms. Maybe one of our resident engineers can chime in and correct me. The cars have a battery that is charged via an MGU-K (kinetic) and MGU-H (heat).
The MGU-K is similar enough to your typical roadway hybrid. It's connected to the driveshaft and captures energy via engine braking. You'll see the lights on the back of the cars flash as they go into turns as the MGU-K harvests power via braking. It can provide about 160ish horsepower for 30ish seconds on a full battery and can be deployed automatically via engine mapping or manually by the driver.
The MGU-H is connected to the turbo. It gets charged via exhaust turning a turbine. It's used to keep the turbo spooled and minimize turbo lag. The MGU-H is pretty unique to F1. It's a very complex, expensive, and finicky system. If memory serves me, the next generation of cars will not have the MGU-H.

On lap 20 of the Miami Grand Prix, Verstappen took the lead and has not given it up since- he has now led 223 consecutive laps over the last four races.

Albon is a really good driver and the upgrades maybe, just maybe are making WIlliams a solid mid field car. Fingers crossed.
Didn't Williams only upgrade Albon's car?

Lost in all of the Albon praise yesterday was a great drive by Bottas. He qualified 14th and managed to finish in the points for just the second time this season. He undoubtedly benefited some from the DRS train at the end of the race, but to hold off two cars objectively faster than his own (Piastri's McLaren and Gasly's Alpine) and score was a big deal. I think with a couple more laps Piastri would've goten him.
Good for ol' BOT.

Yes. I don't think Sargent is getting the upgrades for another couple of races.

I hope he gets them and can start scoring!
It would be nice if HAAS could do something about tire wear issues.

Whats the record?

Two-time World Champion Alberto Ascari holds the record for most consecutive laps led in Formula 1. The Italian led 305 laps in a row between the 1952 Belgian Grand Prix and the 1953 Dutch Grand Prix. Ascari is helped out slightly in this list due to the longer length of Grands Prix in the 1950s.
No one has come within 40 laps of equalling Ascari’s record. Ayrton Senna got close twice during his career (his personal best being 264 consecutive laps in the lead between the 1988 British and Italian Grands Prix) but Nigel Mansell and Sebastian Vettel are the only other drivers to have led over 200 laps consecutively.
If goes the full 71 in Austria he will be right on the cusp of setting the record

I like Guenther the person but man oh man this Haas team is just putrid week after week. Every year they look great in pre season changes. Then racing starts and they keep going backwards as year presses on. Its not just one thing either its everything.
I don’t think Haas cares to do well in F1 either. He just likes his name out there to drum up business. And in that case Guenther does great. But their best year was their first year.

One of the more interesting races of the year. You just have to assume Max will win by a mile and hope for a good race after him.

I do wonder what comes of it all if the Alfa merging happens. Would think Gene eventually takes a back seat and leaves.
His team is worth a boatload more money than anyone realized a year ago. Knowing that the teams that be have no interest in allowing an additional team even ay 500MM
