Penske supposedly turned down an offer from Liberty to buy Indycar. The wanted to turn it in to a feeder series for F1. Screw that.

Yeah frick that. Nobody wants 10 races in the middle east. And you know those frickers would try it.

Why? It would probably be better off and drivers would have a better pathway.

This suggests that Red Bull is committed to AlphaTauri and wants to do everything in order to improve their second team's performance after rebuffing a $800 Million offer

i like what liberty has done, but they need to slow down on adding races. i feel like 22 is the sweet spot.

F1's new sprint format has been approved
- Friday qualifying sets Sunday grid, Saturday standalone
- Saturday qualifying (Q1 - 12 mins, Q2 - 10 mins, Q3 - 8 mins) called 'sprint shootout' and sets sprint grid
- Sprint shootout mandatory tyres: Q1 and Q2 medium, Q3 soft

- Grid penalties in FP1 and Friday qualifying will apply to the race
- Grid penalties in sprint shootout apply to sprint
- Grid penalties in sprint apply to the race
- Parc ferme breaches mean a pit lane start in both sprint and race
- PU penalties only apply to race #F1

Another change confirmed today by the F1 Commission and World Motor Sport Council is an increase of power unit elements.
ICE, turbo, MGU-H and MGU-K all increased from a maximum of three to a maximum of four this year only #F1

So 2 completely separate qualifying sessions? Seems odd.

The most common complaint I saw was that the results of the sprint shouldn't impact the grid for the GP. This "fixes that".

Would be much more likely to shake things up for the sprint.

Big question on how they handle parc ferme.
Imagine they enter parc ferme after the friday quali, which sort of sucks. Let the teams change engine modes or even engines for the sprint. Let them race.

F1 continues to lose its soul and descend into circus.
Although, TBH I like the idea of fewer practice sessions, might shake up the field a little bit if a team goes in the wrong direction or if they have an accident or technical glitch that cuts into practice time. Also I like Jor Jor's idea of a one-hot-lap shootout.

I'm still waiting to hear more info on how soon after the sprint shootout the sprint will actually be.
Combined, the 2 events should take about an hour on Saturday, but I can see whichever ESPN channel it is on switching away because they weren't ready for the new format...or the break between them.
ESPN's guide still shows a 1 hour FP2 and a 1 hour sprint on Saturday...

I would imagine the time windows stay the same. Broadcast windows aren't going to move. FP2 with just be sprint quali

I would too...I just saw commentary online that "everything will just take an hour now". They might have meant "an hour combined"...

Aren’t they doing quali for sprint in the same format? That’s an hour alone and then the sprint races are close to 30 min, with the other stuff, that’s an hour.

What’s the point system for the sprint race?
