I really believe Nascar officials in the tower only watch the TV broadcast like regular fans now. Probably the reason they missed the Byron/Hamlin spat at Texas.
Because if they truly had spotters in the turns like they're supposed to there's no way they would have missed that. Or the rain at Daytona.

This is from last week, but this is a good clip from The Dale Jr. Download discussing the new car and the current safety concerns. Worth a listen:

I know he didn't have a good showing at the Roval in xfinity, but I'd like to see Marco get that Big Machine car full time.

I was told the poster laying in turn 6 had been there for a while. Does anyone know how long? That caution created a demolition derby.

It came into play around the end of the 2nd stage i believe. I hit it when it was flying up in the air, then laid up against the wall in turn 6 for awhile after that.

Whats ironic is they had time to remove or fix it yet did not. But are investigating 41 for manipulation. How about they investigate themselves? Did they leave it on purpose to spice up the ending? It had major chase implications plus cost Chase a win. Everyone was just waiting for the late race caution knowing one was coming. Nastycar fooled no one, they intentionally left it to use later.

Thats NFL level bad officiating.

I've gotta admit, Denny is growing on me a little. I enjoy him calling out NASCAR. I feel like cares about the sport being good and being safe.

I mean, how many “debris cautions” or whatever through the decades could’ve lead us to believe NASCAR was capable of something like this

Happy 48th birthday to Junior.

You would have more credibility if you would stop this

Rumor is that Kurt Busch announces his retirement this weekend at Vegas. And Tyler Reddick to the 45 next year. Holding out hope that 23XI goes to a three car team for one year so Kurt can have the proper retirement tour.

I would hate to see Kurt go out that way. Kurt's transformation as a person over the last several years has been very admirable.
As for Reddick, the rumor is that 23XI is going ahead and buying out his RCR contract so he can go ahead and drive the 45 next year.

Personally I can see Gibbs becoming the next Childress or Roush. Think about all the talent both teams had at one point.
Roush - 2012 lineup
Kenseth
Biffle
Edwards
All were still relatively at the top of their game.
By 2015 only Biffle was left. And he walked a year later.
Childress - 2011
Harvick
Menard
Bowyer
By 2014 both Harvick and Bowyer were gone. Instead of Harvick and Bowyer, they had Austin Dillon and a somewhat washed up Ryan Newman.
By 2025
Hamlin is likely retired.
Truex is retired.
Would not shock me one bit to see Bell head to Stewart-Haas.
Ty Gibbs is gonna be the focal point.
Gibbs will crumble once Joe steps away. He has no outside revenue stream to fall back on.

Rumor was with RFK but appears dead.
Sources: Dodge's talks about re-entering NASCAR have stalled
Sports Business Journal LINK
Another source:
Dodge says that it is focused on the NHRA and "not expanding our efforts into other forms of racing at this time."

Jeff Gluck:
quote:
Wow. NASCAR fines Cole Custer $100,000 and docks him 50 points, then fines crew chief Mike Shiplett $100,000 and indefinitely suspends him. This is related to slowing down with teammate Chase Briscoe trying to get points at the end of the Roval.
quote:
Pretty surprised by this, honestly. Curious to know what is the difference between this and other teammate assist situations we’ve seen that were ruled OK (like Elliott slowing down in front of Harvick for Larson to win Bristol). NASCAR will speak about penalty at 4:30 pm ET.
quote:
NASCAR's Scott Miller on Cole Custer penalty: "Found some things we felt we had to react to." Says Mike Shiplett told Custer "I think you got a flat, check up, check up" when he couldn't see the car. Miller said that was "pretty telling." Also data showed "done deliberately."
quote:
Scott Miller: "We can't have teams manipulating the finishing order." Says NASCAR would have had an even stronger reaction if this was the reason Briscoe advanced to Round 3 (but in their view, it was not).
quote:
Scott Miller on why Chase Elliott at Bristol last year was different: "That was the driver taking some things into his own hands" and wasn't told to do it.
quote:
Scott Miller says the radio instructions to Custer "could not even be construed as anything else." Says Custer blatantly pulled over and changed finishing order on last lap.
quote:
Scott Miller says they considered suspending Cole Custer but chose not to because "super flagrant things that eliminated other competitors" are only things that rose to this level in the past. Following precedent.
quote:
Scott Miller says NASCAR did not consider removing Chase Briscoe from the playoffs in part because no one ever told him his teammates would help or something along those lines. So it wasn't coordinated, NASCAR feels.
quote:
That's the end of the short press conference. Would have liked to ask whether NASCAR viewed Custer as intentionally holding up the cars behind him to let Briscoe pass them or was just pulling over to give his teammate one spot. Think that's an important distinction.
quote:
Following up on this last point, NASCAR indicates they believe Custer actions gave Briscoe two points/positions. He made it by two points but had the tiebreaker over Larson, so it would have had to be three points for the penalty to escalate (Iike Briscoe possible removal).

Custer fined $100,000, loses 50 points for slowing down on last lap to allow Briscoe to get into next round. His crew chief was fined $100,000 and indefinitely suspended.
