I bet they knew there was an issue and was just trying to keep him calm

He kind of admitted it just before max retired. "We can see the issue and it's not battery related." That was the first time over radio that they said they could see an issue.

Concerning Merc power, I noted during the race that Mags was just slightly pulling Ham when Lewis was looking to get inside in a non DRS zone, so it appears the Ferrari has more power.

Max did everything he needed to win last year. Both Max and Hamilton did everything they needed.

A tough result to take. We need to do a full investigation, but it looks like both Bulls suffered from a suspected fuel pump issue.

Couple that with Checo already taking a new gearbox and the worry of reliability has to sneak in.

Also, fuel pump doesn't explain the steering issue. Battery may.

He was a talent and was supposed to a WDC contender, but couldn’t get in a competitive car in his prime.

Just got back home. Life is good. The real winner of the GP was Ross Brawn. The early fight between Leclerc and Max showed how the new formula translates to the ability to fight on the track.

The church bells are ringing and the notes of Il Canto degli Italiani are echoing through the Italian hills.

The universe has been set back on its proper axis. The F175 is properly fast, the pit is firing on all cylinders, RB/Honda have issues and Merc is .8 off the race pace.

The hydraulics would be screwed if the engine isnt running right
He did say the engine braking was acting funny early on in the race

Just catching up and Im not sure everyone has seen post race info but this is what Ive gathered:

-Gasly had MGU-K failure. No relation to RBR issues.

-Max's steering issue arose after a pit stop. Prelim info is that a tie rod was damaged on the drop of the car. Horner mentioned different post-race dimensions between L/R tie rods.

-Both RBR cars suffered from late race/low fuel starvation/pickup/pump cooling. This has no relation to Gasly's issue. More details to come after full investigation.

-Not sure I understand this but Im seeing several reports that Mercedes has identified some cause(s) of their lack of pace, but kept quiet leading up to it. The factory team has some fixes and we will likely see Mercedes make improvements over the coming weeks.

-No news yet on Max's early engine braking comments. May or may not be MGU-K related.
