Only thing I dislike about the sprint is it sets the grid order for Sunday.

I know a lot of folks hate it in this thread but I would be in favor of the following.

- Qualifying sets grid order for Grand Prix

- Sprint race is reverse grid from qualifying with same sprint points awarded for 1-10

- Normal Grand Prix Sunday

#teamfricksprints

If we are going to do this, which it appears we are, then we should have open rules. Allow engine and engine mode changes. Allow teams to setup the car strictly for the sprint.

The parc fermé fricks up the whole works because teams can't experiment and the weekend is on pause for development.

I hated the idea of a sprint qualifying race, too gimmicky and non-traditional. But when I found myself enjoying the sprint races, I had to do a deeper examination of why I didn't like the idea, and this was why. It sets the grid order and that can totally screw someone if they have an incident. I agree with the above, qualifying sets the grid order. The sprint race is just a separate short race for points. Expanding the points to the top 8 this year was a good first step.

A reverse grid for the sprint would be weird. While it wouldn't affect the qualifying efforts of the top teams and the midfield, it would encourage the drivers of the slowest three teams that weekend to tank it, because starting from sprint pole is a big advantage, and their chances of big points are much greater than trying to make it to Q2.

PSA: Incase you didn’t realize this is a sprint weekend which means qualifying is Friday, sprint race Saturday, and Grand Prix Sunday.

We get three days of competitiveness. Wish they would do away with sprint determining GP start position though.

Wouldn't that highly incentivize the bad teams to tank qualifying?

They wouldn't worry about qualifying at all, because it's such a battle and they're lucky to even sniff a 10th place showing and 1 point.

So finish last, get to start 1st in the Spring, and have a much higher chance of getting points.

I don't think that would work.

I love that for every sprint race this thread argues over sprint races, even back in the 2021 thread.

THis is my only complaint with the sprint weekends. THey only have one practice before the setups are locked into the cars. Let them tune on the things right up until racetime on Sunday and I would have zero complaints about sprints. Hell, I'd want more of them.

Ah dang, so they have to basically keep the car setup in what they'll use for the Sunday race the same as for the Saturday Sprint?

I didn't realize the parc ferme still applied for sprints, that's kinda lame.

If Mercedes had got their act together with the W13 in the off-season, this year could have been one of those 2010-type seasons. But it wasn't meant to be.

BTW this officially is the longest winless streak of Lewis Hamilton's career at 11 races, soon to be 12 at Austria. France could be his next best opportunity to end the streak.

Thanks

That's kinda silly, they should allow them to let these cars loose for the Sprint, see them go all out then revert back to the setup for the long haul race.

Max responds to Ham's dig with one of his own;

quote:

The 24-year-old, who feels Hamilton's failure to take a tight enough line through the corner was the reason for the crash, joked: "I think it's great that, when you're 37 years old, at some point you understand how to get to an apex.

"He does learn, so that's positive for the younger drivers: when you're 37 you still are always learning!

"You can clearly see it in the images, of course. Charles gave him less space than I did last year, so that says enough. Moreover, he received a penalty last year, so you should not talk about that."

Asked if it was smart for Hamilton to make such a dig, given the huge Dutch crowd that will travel to Austria this weekend, he continued: "He has to live with it himself.

"I think it's a bit clumsy but, in the end, it has nothing to do with my performance. I have to focus on what we're doing here. I think we're doing quite well this year, so we'll keep working on that."

This is going to get good.

I appreciate how drivers usually say how they don't remember or "oh no, I didn't see that I was driving mu own race" then come out and can pinpoint some minor action 6 races ago with a passive aggressive comment. The old drivers meeting videos were full of them.

As I am new to this sport I really wanted to give all the drivers and principles fair shake.

I just don't like the level of Diva bitching I see from Hamilton. He acts the most like a millineal of all the drivers, even the younger ones.

Yep, I thought I'd pick a favorite but have picked up F1 the past month and just taking it all in. No favorites yet.

I'm a bit sympathetic to poor LeClerc so I can see taking him up as a favorite. Watching last season's Drive to Survive, Riccardio just seems like a likeable dude but it also seems like a bad time to make him the guy I pull for for obvious reasons lol.

I'm still a free agent though, no rush but I'm sure I'll take to a team eventually.

For the newer fan: Driver Briefing

FTR: I'm on team Don't Give a shite about Sprints. I don't hate them. I don't love them. I still watch them and enjoy them.

F2 and F3 do this for the top 10 on the Saturday sprint race. I like it

I dont think reverse grid would be odd, to me it gives the mid pack teams a better chance to score. I mean let’s be honest everyone is going to pass Latifi‘s sorry arse who would be odds on favorite for sprint poll.
