DrivenByData is a new twitter that has some interesting infographics. I look forward to what they produce this year.

That DFV so many teams ran for years stacked up some impressive stats.

Just announced that Green Day will play on Friday and Ed Sheeran will play on the Saturday for COTA.

quote:This plus a lot of teams having at least one driver with an entertaining personality I think is really the darkhorse reason. F1 is full to the brim with driver personality right now. Obviously as an American, wanting Haas to succeed came pretty easily, but I have a vested interest in how nearly every driver on the grid finishes either because of their own personal stream/youtube content or off track F1 media coverage of them.
I would say a huge part is the anybody but Mercedes effect.
If I'm F1 I'm doing everything I can to find that equilibrium in keeping drivers/teams happy and getting as much documentary-esque footage off track as possible. Just getting the drivers' personalities out as much as they can will sell the sport by itself.

I’m thinking about buying 4 to turn 18 in Miami tomorrow… trying to make enough money back on the two that aren’t mine that I don’t get raped too badly.
Surprise to my wife for her birthday.
EDIT: was prepared to pay about $1000 per ticket. They wanted $2400 for each ticket face value. Nope.

Thought Miami was sold out?
Interestingly Vegas is not being put on by a local promotor. It is being done by F1 itself which is unusual. No sanctioning fees but on the flip side F1 gets all the revenue.

The sight of the cars flying by the Bellagio fountains at night will make for great visuals, likely a big reason for the street race there, but I really wish they would get another permanent US road course on the schedule.
From past comments made by Road America I'm guessing most tracks that could be made FIA grade 1 have no desire to.
https://wtf1.com/post/what-does-it-take-to-be-an-fia-grade-1-circuit/
As an example, Road America is 3 feet too narrow and would likely require a change of turn one to a tighter radius and more runoff at the Kink. Which isn't possible short of moving the railroad tracks that are on the other side of the barriers. Several other changes would be needed as well but that's just a few examples.
It would instantly be the fastest circuit on the schedule, which would be nice.

My COTA tickets are at turn 12, top row. Paid close to $500 each for four, US purchased the concert upgrades for the Ed Sheeren concert at $95 each.
Asking prices for those tickets are going for close $2400 each now.
Next year, I'm buying twice as many tickets and reselling half of them.

A night race in America would be just before dawn in Europe. I don't think that's happening.

More ratings info
Adam Stern
@ESPN earned a 0.79 rating and 1.445 million viewers for Sunday's
@F1 race in Saudi Arabia, up significantly from last year's second event at Imola, Italy (0.53 rating, 906,000 viewers).
This race now leapfrogs Bahrain to become the most-watched F1 race on cable since 1995.
——-
After opening with its largest cable audience in 27 years, Formula 1 surpassed that mark in week two.
Sunday’s Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix averaged a 0.8 rating and 1.45 million viewers on ESPN, marking the largest live F1 audience since the 2014 Canadian GP on NBC (1.49M) and the largest on cable since the 1995 Brazilian GP on ESPN (1.74M). The first two races this season rank among the three most-watched ever on cable, with the previous week’s Bahrain opener ranking third at 1.35 million.
Overall, Max Verstappen’s win ranks among the ten most-watched F1 races ever on U.S. television, ranking slightly behind the 2002 Canadian GP in ninth place. The all-time record for an F1 race remains 2.78 million for ABC’s tape-delayed coverage of the 2002 Monaco GP.
For the second-straight week, F1 on ESPN outdrew NASCAR on FOX in the adults 18-34 demographic. Sunday’s race averaged a 0.44 in the demo, compared to a 0.32 for NASCAR from Circuit of the Americas. The previous week, Bahrain pulled a 0.43 and NASCAR a 0.37.
NASCAR won out in adults 18-49, scoring a 0.58 in that demo to F1’s 0.50. That was a wider margin than the previous week, when NASCAR won the head-to-head 0.55 to 0.50.
Notably, the F1 race was cable’s highest rated program of the day in adults 18-34 and 18-49. For the week ending Sunday, it was ESPN/ABC’s second-most watched sportscast behind a Sixers-Lakers NBA game last Wednesday night (1.52M) and ahead of Women’s NCAA Tournament games, primetime UFC and the NHL on ABC

Wow, it would have to be a late race, green flag at 9:00 or 10:00 pm Vegas time. My impression has always been that green flags around the world had to be friendly to European viewing. I think this is only conceivable because of Liberty Media. Of course I never thought we'd see three F1 races in America.

This was predicted during one of the pre-season SkySports shows I watched. McLaren is the only team (for now) where there is a light on the guns that turn green when the tire is tightened appropriately. I'm just waiting to see the other teams follow suit.
