An American abroad?
She was momentarily stupid. Whomever she is should have to pay a fine. That also goes for all of the fricktards that run alongside the riders.

Hopefully someone beat the frick out of that attention whore

She will be found to be part of some fringe protest group or something similar.
The way she is dressed and the way the sign was made and placed makes me think it was intentional.
Then again I drank drank on a Saturday night so drank Drank is drank.
Something doesn’t seem right with this Curious George meets Where’s Waldo character though.
Will update 2nd post in the morning with the stage results.

Didi Senft must get an exeption.

I think that guy was being a bit dramatic. The sign is made out of cardboard, you’re telling me he just couldn’t hold his bars straight and just go through the cardboard.

And that’s how we know you’ve never risen faster than 20 miles a hour. Not to mention being shoulder to shoulder with other riders and riders on your back tire. Just riding through something you don’t expect to affect you is impossible.

Oh yeah, that was just a flop, he was expecting a refs whistle and a couple of free throws.
Even ruling out any contact behind the sign with the woman if you notice in the picture something (maybe his cyclometer) is breaking through the cardboard and at that point basically becomes a rope on his bars.
In the end, as the Dude would say:

He crashed because he hit her arm which was holding out the sign.
But just cardboard can be dangerous depending on the speed of the riders. In 2006 a Tour sponsor gave out cardboard hands, Hushovd hit one during the sprint and gore ensued.

Apparently, the organizers are going to sue the woman, if they find her.

The roadside fan who caused a giant crash at the Tour de France on Saturday is to be sued by the organisers.
The woman concerned held up a banner slightly into the road and was looking straight at the television motorbike cameras with her back turned on the speeding peloton.
German rider Tony Martin brushed past her and was knocked off balance racing near the head of the peloton, and when he fell it caused a horrifying domino effect ending in a tangle of bikes and bodies.
DSM's German rider Jasha Sutterlin was the only one who had to pull out at that moment but several people were hurt, including spectators.
"We are suing this woman who behaved so badly," Tour deputy director Pierre-Yves Thouault told AFP.
"We are doing this so that the tiny minority of people who do this dont spoil the show for everyone," he said.
Italian champion Sonny Colbrelli and Dutch rider Wout van Aert, who ran over Martin before falling head over heels, had both been amongst the favourites to win the first stage hilltop finish but were both badly delayed.
Two Ineos riders Richie Porte and Tao Geoghegan Hart both lost time, while champion Tadej Pogacar saw his right hand man Marc Hirschi badly hurt.
According to regional newspaper Ouest France the woman who was wearing a yellow jacket fled the scene and has yet to be found.

I've been saying for years that France needs to enact laws on interference with a rider and prosecute some of these idiots.
The year when everyone suddenly had a smart phone was full of incidents with people taking selfies with their back to the peloton. I think it was the Tour of Yorkshire where it was almost daily. Loved it when a rider swatted someone's phone out of their hand.
Another favorite was seeing the Guardia Civil at the La Vuelta grab people who were in the road and throw them to the ditch. Those guys don't play.

Spectators are a part of the sport IMO. It was so disappointing to see no-one on those great climbs last year. People obviously need to be smart and stay out of the way of the riders but this is not the first time it’s happened. Remember Froome running up a climb without his bike? That was motorcycle caused but I think the swarming crowds caused that to happen, a chain reaction like yesterday.

if you have NBCSN on your cable subscription you can see it live in the morning or see the replay in the evening
I do but scrolling through the upcoming dates it doesn’t look like all race days are covered either live or in replay. Note it was on Spectrums guide which is meh, so I’ll look online. If it doesn’t work I’ll subscribe to Peacock for a month and dump post Tour.
