My point is Whorff was going to get plenty of rest anyway. He usually pitches on Sunday, so there was no point pulling him. We would have all four starting pitchers rested for this weekend regardless.

Even if Tech somehow lucks into a regional there's no way LSU gets sent there if LSU makes it. The committee isn't sending Tech a team that waxed their arse twice this season.

So him and Kendall Rogers are on the same page.

Aaron and Kendall are butt buddies so them being on the same page doesn't mean anything.

They may just because the NCAA is still being bitches about COVID and already said they are trying to limit as much travel as possible.

Granted, that could mean LSU heads to Hattiesburg if USM somehow hosts.

I've said 2021 is our best chance at an all Louisiana regional since 2002 because of that.

2002 they were afraid of 9/11

2021 they are afraid of covid

I think USM is a better bet to host. They certainly are more deserving. They seem to be a stringer club in general, and, as of now, are finishing stronger. But the cusa turney will show if that remains true.....even though the sites will be chosen by then.

I worry we have already been forced to stretch out our rotation a little too much
I respectfully disagree. These are young men in their early 20s. They pitch once a week. That's FAR from being stretched out, plus it's not a 162 game season we're discussing here. Each SP gets 5-6 days rest in between starts. I know it can sometimes feel right to justify a coach's decision, but his decision to pull Whorff was just not the right one. He didn't pitch against FIU (canceled), and he has four days in between yesterday and Sunday. A start on four days rest is absolutely not uncommon at all.

I really hope you are right. I remember Nate Harris running out of steam the final two weeks of the season after being, statistically, the nations best pitcher back in 2017. However, he was a reliever turned starter midway through the season.

So how does this regional stuff work? I know they have visited 20 spots (?). When will they announce the actual 16 regional hosts?

20 potential host sites will be announced tomorrow. That list will be trimmed down to the actual 16 host sites on selection Monday.

Tomorrow will be our first glimpse into the mind of the committee. Does RPI matter? Which conference will get the love?

Here is a Louisiana baseball update going into the final two weekends of the regular season.

AAC
Tulane – (vs. #96 UCF x 4 | @ #87 Cincinnati x 4)
#2 in AAC Standings (.5 GB of 1st)

Tulane is squarely on the bubble. They sit a half game back of East Carolina after dropping three-of-four last weekend.

Information on the AAC Tournament is tough to find, but will be hosted by USF in Florida.

C-USA
Louisiana Tech – (vs. #80 UTSA x 4 | vs. #13 Old Dominion x 2)
#2 in C-USA West (.5 GB of 1st)

At-large bid is virtually secured. Regional hosting could be on the table over the final weeks of the season. Southern Miss with one more win leads by half a game. Bulldogs would need three-of-four to keep hosting hopes alive.

Conference USA uses a standard eight-team double elimination bracket. Tournament will be hosted by LA Tech in Ruston.

SEC
LSU – (vs. #29 Alabama x 3 | vs. #154 Northwestern State | @ #61 Texas A&M x 3)
#5 in SEC West

Another Louisiana team on the bubble. Tigers needs four of the next six in any shape and potentially a game in Hoover. LSU will play in the single elimination round of the SEC Tournament so five-of-six would make that game a lot less stressful. Alabama will be fighting for their lives as well this weekend.

SEC Tournament gives the top-four seeds a bye. First round is single elimination with eight teams advancing to the double-elimination portion.

Southland
Southeastern (@ Texas A&M CC x 4 | vs. Houston Baptist x 4) - #2 (Percentage Points Back)
UNO (@ Lamar x 4 | vs. Louisiana | @ Oklahoma State) - #3 (Percentage Points Back)
Northwestern State (@ Stephen F. Austin x 4 | @ LSU | vs. Texas A&M CC x 4) - #4 (1 Game Back)
McNeese (vs. Nicholls x 4 | @ Central Arkansas x 4) - #7 (4.5 Games Back)
Nicholls (@ McNeese x 4 | vs. Sam Houston x 4) #8 (5 Games Back)

Southland will be a one-bid league. Southland Conference Tournament will be hosted by Southeastern in Hammond. Standard eight-team double elimination bracket. All five Louisiana teams would qualify but McNeese and Nicholls will need to win a few more. Southeastern still with a great opportunity to win the league, while UNO would need some help trailing three games in the loss column.

Sun Belt
Louisiana (@ UT-Arlington x 3 | @ New Orleans | vs. Troy x 3) - #2 in West (2 GB of 1st)
ULM (@ TCU x 3 | @ Arkansas State x 3) - #6 in West (3.5 GB of 1st)
Sun Belt will be a one-bid league as well. Cajuns with a big opportunity to grab first place in the division on the road at UTA.

Sun Belt Conference Tournament is in Montgomery, Alabama. Unique format where all 12 teams make the tournament are divided into four pods with the winner of each pod advancing to a four-team single elimination playoff on Saturday and Sunday.

SWAC
Grambling #2 in West
Southern #3 in West

One bid league. Jackson State went undefeated in conference play. No details have been released about the SWAC tournament which will be played next week in Madison, Alabama.

That league is not using regular standings this year due to COVID. It's a points system where you get 3 for a win and 1 for a canceled game.

Why not? They’ve been a top 20 team pretty much the entire season.
