Finally! A sport to watch. These dudes don’t protest.

The TdF has a long history of protests usually by people not riding bikes. More often than not it is French farmers but I do remember one time it was the Dutch Police.

But the riders have protested

Here is a picture of the riders back in the day protesting... mistreatment by the police.

Lil Marco protesting

Even the Badger lead a protest

But the Badger also took out a protestor that one time...

I will post results, leaders etc 24 hours after each stage so those that record it can have time to catch up without spoilers.
Messy first day and was quite fun to watch.
Always found it interesting that they can make up rules on the fly in the TDF such as taking the times at the 3km mark bc of the conditions and then letting the sprinters have at it.

What do we think about Astana not heeding Tony Martins call for neutralization of the race prior to the decent? I bet Izagirre wishes they had.

Like stage 19 last year where they stopped the stage due to the weather and set the time at the top of the last climb which caused Alaphilippe to lose the yellow jersey to Bernal.

Yep. To be fair there was a monsoon at the bottom of that descent last year and I think Bernal was going to run away w/it the next day regardless. But it’s very interesting how and when the ‘suits’ make these decisions during races.
I know Pinot is not a happy guy but it could’ve been a LOT worse had that massive pileup not occurred directly under the 3km sign where time was taken. Just one of those crazy things.
On another note it was so damn nice seeing all the fans and support along the way.. besides the masks it felt like I was watching the world try to be normal again and it was VERY satisfying. Looking forward to the next 3 weeks. It’s always an amazing journey.
Welcome to new viewers as well. These are the greatest athletes in the world and what they can do in that super compact peloton going 20-35 Mph for 3-4 hours is just insanity.

Today was so meh except for the tour alternating crashes. This could have been prevented with a Prologue to calm everyone down. I know they couldn’t control the weather, but this day was avoidable. First day of the tour on these narrow roads and then rain!

Because... 2020

Hopefully no ‘serious’ injuries this year but I don’t trust 2020.
Also the bicycles on tour this year are

It’s crazy to see a quarter million dollars or more of pedaling machines on top of the team cars

Outside of rain tomorrow has very narrow twisty roads also.

The early Tour nerves certainly didn't get extinguished today. My bet is an early large breakaway with the peloton sitting up and relaxing until near the end and just missing catching the remains of the breakaway. I would expect the 3 Pro teams trying to get their sponsor's names out there along with some of lower powered World teams.

Had no idea today was the first time an Israeli rider had EVER ridden in the tour.
Kind of blows my mind really.
It seems there are big things expected from Israeli Start Up Team already.. securing Froome didn’t hurt. Will be interesting to follow. Also didn’t realize CCC doesn’t have a sponsor for next year. Tough business in Cycling.

ETA: Holy shite. Had no clue there was no TTT this year and the ITT is literally the last stage before the Champs Elysees...
Huh?!?!
I was wondering why tomorrow and Monday were other mountain stages.
This tour is gonna be ... not one for the sprinters that’s for sure. Wow

I know nothing about professional cycling, but get very nostalgic during the Tour De France. When I was a kid I spent most summers in Sicily at my grandparents. My grandpa and I would sit-in the living room and watch every stage of the Tour De France from 1998-2004. The Lance Golden Era. Always brings back a bunch of memories.

Also, bought a road bike last week. Rode for the first time today. Incredibly enjoyable.

A few years ago when the cops pepper sprayed the protesting farmers for putting bales of hay in street... which led to the cops accidentally pepper spraying the peloton

Was that already 2 years ago? Wow time flies. I remember they had to pause the peloton for a good 30-45 minutes while the riders got the pepper spray off of them.
Wild. I hope we still get to see borat, the devil, etc in the mountains this year.

Yeah that was 2018 which was a nuts year. Team Sky got spit on, Nibali broke his back when a fans camera strap got hung on his bars, in the same stage as the protest Gilbert slammed into a wall and broke his kneecap on the same decent as Fabio Casartelli died on in 1995. BTW Casartelli was a teammate of Armstrong on the Motorola team and when he won a stage a couple of days later he pointed to the sky and blew kisses.

After rewatching the crashes today it reminded me of the Hoogerland crash

And the crash where the guy ruptured his kidney and cracked vertebrae got in ambulance and then said no I’ll ride only to abandon 10 k later

These men are madmen

What time and what network are the evening replays?
I'm not paying for NBC Gold, even though I like the Premier League, as well.

In past years, they would replay at least twice if not three times during the day. I found nothing today.
Eurosport or Sky, either?

Thanks for any help.

I don’t think you’ll have replays until
Hockey is over on NBCSN. You may get a review at 1230 am CDT on NBCSN nightly though.

Fwiw, the gold doesn't give you access to every sport. I have a separate one for PGA, cycling and epl.
Cycling and epl are worth it. Could do without the PGA

Can I use NBC Gold in Roku? I have Disney and ESPN Plus at my elementary office and iPad.
