He’s been really good all year (Bernal). He was working for Thomas in Tour de Romandie, but ended up destroying him after Thomas had a bad time trial and bad mountain stage. He will certainly be a guy who could win it sometime fairly soon.

Gaviria was the only guy that had any chance at making Green Jersey race close. There will still be some guys battle it out for the Green Jersey podium though and stage wins. Demare and Kristoff are solid and Degenkolb has been really solid so far.

Froome can still take yellow by attacking
This is different to the Froome/Wiggins situation as the #1 guy had the yellow jersey even though the #2 was stronger hence why Froome had to wait.
Thomas on the front yesterday isn’t as much as him working as how it should be when all domestiques are used, it’s just been so long since there’s not been a sky train it looks wierd. Unless someone is putting the pressure on the yellow jersey leads the pack.
I think Sky let it be open season in the Pyrenees while it is 1st and 2nd. I do however expect atleast one of them to crack, as promising as GT has looked over the last couple of years his best finish in a GT is still only 15th, he’s never lasted the three weeks whether it be through crash, cracking or a mixture. Froome still has the Giro in his legs and there’s not guarantee he will survive this as it’s much harder than the Tour/Vuelta imo

Yep. Nibali out with broken vertebra. Crash involved police motorbikes.
They just showed it, and it looked like it was the fault of some idiot with a camera who got in the way. Frustrates me as a casual watcher, so I can't imagine how pissed the competitors are.

He who does not try can not win
PHILIPPE GILBERT
Man I was hoping he was going to pull that of with a KM to go.

It was a camera strap. Not sure though fans fault entirely as the motorcycle was not doing its job

Meh, riders can get over it. Drunk Eurotrash would riot toss the railing at any officials.

man... right now a 16 minute lead for the breakaway with 21 miles left
seems like 1 where it could stay away
if only a midling contender (like a TvG) could've gotten into the break and really shake shite up
ETA: damn near 17 minute lead
ETA: I didn't realize TvG was 53+ minutes back... I'm thinking someone like 30ish minutes back

Absolutely remarkable.

Quintana lost 10 more seconds
Dan Martin had a flat right at the worst possible place... right at the start of the final climb and lost ~1:40 to the leading 3 in the GC
Doumoulin is officially the only guy who can potentially upset the Sky party

what's amazing is that the top 15-30 finishers in today's stage gained 18+ minutes in the overall

I’m becoming more impressed with Dumo as the race progresses. Guy is a quality talent. Hoping he can find a way to break Sky, but I’m still not convinced he can. Honestly think he will have a bad spot at some point. Hope I’m wrong.
ETA I wonder what Roglic can do doing forward to help break Sky up?

Quintana pisses me off so much. Also, wtf happened to Uran?

he abandoned due to injuries suffered on the Roubaix/cobblestone stage
ETA: he continued on through the 1st 2 days in the Alps... but on the day Thomas took yellow he finished 26 minutes-plus behind and thus DNS the Alpe D'Huez stage

Assuming this is one of those unwritten rules?
(sorry if noob question)

if the GC contenders notice another contender trying to get into the breakaway then they'll force their team to chase down the break until everyone's back in the peloton
when a break gets clear and it's confirmed no one of note is in it... then the top teams will let it get away
