quote:No, just strategically speaking. A contender isn't going to waste his energy in a breakaway because he knows they'll be reeled back in easily. And the teams of the other contenders will work together to reel them back in. So yeah it never happens.
Assuming this is one of those unwritten rules?

aside from the doping... how did Landis get clear and make get in yellow the year he won (obviously he hasn't "won" it anymore)?
wasn't he like 10+ minutes down at the start of that day and then all of a sudden was in yellow

It was last mountain stage and he just went balls out then the time trial. I also think nobody thought he would survive as he had cracked and was dropped the day before.
He won it by 6 minutes I believe.

2006 End of Stage 16 - Stage 17 - Landis win YouTube
ETA: my question was how on earth did the peloton let him get away like that... seems like he made his big move on Col de la Colombaire and no one from any of the GC teams (including Oscar Perierro's who was in yellow that day) seemed to notice

Because he had cracked the day before and they thought he was done is my only guess. Somewhat like how Indurain would

That was a crazy couple of stages. Peloton was not organized at all. Sky wouldnt let shite like that happen.

Off topic but the Argos signed Dexter McCluster. Since the #Cartel leadership is being lazy I needed to post.

yeah that stage he won by like 6 minutes
he won the overall by just about a minute in Paris
ETA: Landis didn't take the overall lead that day on Colombier... he took it in the time trial 2 days later

So my first reply was correct. You’d think you would’ve learned not to question me, jeesum Pete’s

That lat ITT with Thomas able to chase down Froome, if it stays this way, will be intense. There will be Sky shenanigans I think with Thomas though. He keeps saying I’m riding for Froome so who knows.

Maijka went on the attack as has Martin today. Of course Sherwood complains. Fan falls in front of the motorcycle oh my.

Let’s see. . just recently he’s a won a Grant Tour, was Grand Tour runner-up, and won the World TT championship. Yea. I’d say he’s a ‘quality talent.’
for sure! and his giro win would have been by an even wider margin (over riders like nairo and nibbles) had he not lost time shitting himself on the side of the road. dude is the real deal.

Just seen that Moscon has been DQd for punching a rider

They had no need to do anything. Plus tomorrow is “rest” and Pyrenees are coming.

Wow, I just saw that stage 20 is a TT right before the finish. That's cool.

Sagan is a lock for the green jersey and to break his record for points.
Didn't see it posted, but the guy that tried to push Froome a couple stages ago - apparently he was arrested.
Dumo is a threat moving forward.
Stage 16 - "The plains and then the Pyrenees with three sharp climbs and a trip into Spain before a downhill finish into Bagnères-de-Luchon. Three climbs but arguably the descents are the significant points as they’re twisty and treacherous." inrng.com
I think the second climb is the steepest. I expect to see an attack there but the person coming out of that attack with the lead position (for GC contenders) will crack on the last climb and I think Dumo will surge ahead and finish ahead of the other GC contenders and take back a little time.
Stage 17 - "Just 65km but 3,200m of vertical gain. Uphill from the start and with three hard climbs including the first ever summit finish on the Col du Portet high above Pla d’Adet where the gravel track has been resurfaced for the race to enable this high altitude finish, a new giant in the Pyrenees." inrng.com
I believe this is the last chance for Sky to determine who supports whom moving forward. If either GT or Froome is dropped, they go with the guy in front to preserve standing and fight off Dumo and the others. Such a short stage, I'm assuming some of the GC contenders come right out and attack immediately.

Yeah it's going to be a very explosive stage

Isn’t it about time for a midnight raid into Sky? Or did they pay off the Surete.

super short in terms of ground covered (65KM = 40.4M)
but all that climbing
