Quintana's only chance is to go full Landis and attack from 100Ks out on the Croix de Fer. Alpe D'Huez isn't long enough to pull back 2:40.

These attacks seem to be only for 10 seconds then give up. Never mind Quintana is going to jab him to death it seems.

Movistar had an AWFUL gameplan.

These attacks by Quintana have been very good, but because Sky is still pretty much intact They've used their riders to reel him back in. This would have gotten very interesting if Froome were isolated

Hesjadal is being a man today.

I think Movistar actually played it right now if they can just hit another acceleration. Grooms can't keep that pace.

I wished they would do a mountain top TT someday instead of having people pace you.

Yeah he's only a minute ahead. But he'll get the stage win

ETA: Pinot going to hold him off

I am impressed by the French this year they've shown nuts I didn't know they had.

I hate Froome and Sky but he rode a smart race today.

I think the French were all overrated going into the Tour after last years performance in it

Unfortunately for the French I think this is all their top guns will turn out to be though, Pinot And Rolland can only be stage hunters, Bardet could turn into a GC threat but it will take a lot of time and a weak GC for him to win one

Let's talk about the stage that determined the tour.....stage 2, the flattest stage of all time. That's disappointing.

I don't think it's that disappointing, echelons are awesome I love it when they are in play its full speed from the go

Admittedly I would have like Froome to lose time there are we've never really seen him have to chase in the third week.
But that's how Froome won in '13 too, win the GC in the first two weeks and then hang on

Agreed. Still, we did get a great first week of racing and a couple of dramatic days in the Alps.

Not disappointing at all. I was pulling for Nairo, but the cross winds helped identify the strongest rider and especially the strongest team and not just the best climber

What a great battle today on Alpe d'Huez. Kind of a shame NQ had so much time to make up, because he seemed to be getting better as this third week went on and CF was fading. But the first week is just as important as the last with one caviot...it's much easier to defend in the last week than trying to make up time. Everyone is on the limit already and options get slim. Hats off to Sky and Froom for getting what was available while they were the strongest. Also to NQ for fighting when it just wasn't going to happen. Good tv this morning.

through Dutch Corner

3 buddies of mine were there in 2013 and rode d'huez the morning of the stage. Said Dutch corner is madder than you can imagine. Before the pros come through regulars ride the course and so spectators are just as crazy for the 2k regulars riding in the morning. cheering, jeering, alcohol, throwing water, everything. They claim it's a must for any cyclist.
