that's probably more of a rule 16.1 issue though. In 8.2b it states that partner or caddie can point out a line for putting but can't touch the green in the process. Again, it's clear that wasn't what he was doing...but the question is if I tell my partner to look how my putter is aligned, I address his ball with my putter on the ground, am I violating 8.2b.
The line of a putt doesn't extend beyond the hole, but you can't touch the green beyond the hole indicating alignment for your partner.
