LOL a team from 25 years ago doesn’t stand a chance against a good power 5 team from today because of different contexts and advances of the game and athletes, however the 1995 Nebraska team set the modern gold standard for single-season domination

Exactly. Margin on victories by quarter.
1Q 11.3
2Q 11.9
3Q. 9.6
4Q 5.4

As you can see they slowed it down in the 2H or things could’ve gotten uglier.

A good way of looking at it, if you replayed the 1995 season over again that year, what are the odds Nebraska would have gone undefeated again? Pretty close to 100%. Nobody came remotely close to sniffing a competitive game with them. It would have taken some MAJOR LUCK for that team to have lost a game.

If LSU had to play the entire 2019 season over again, there's a chance they go undefeated again of course, but there's also a real chance they drop a game. Texas, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, all four of those games were legitimately competitive (to varying degrees) into the 2nd half and some into the 4th quarter. LSU was the better team and won every game, but a single big play or two could have easily change the outcome.

That's not a knock against LSU, almost every single national championship team has those games. That's the norm. It's what makes 95 Nebraska such an outlier.

Vs their peers, no one can really touch 95 Nebraska. Does that make them the best ever? For alot of people it does, which is fine by me. LSU's resume is unmatched regardless.

I agree that LSU's resume this year is better than Nebraska's in 95, it was a stronger schedule overall.

How so?

They beat a bunch of teams that happen to be ranked.

You dont think Nebraska in 1995 could've beat teams 2-10 in successive weeks if they had the chance? They beat #2 by 38.

Winning the SEC West is a great accomplishment, but doing it this year doesn't mean all that much. Bama was down on defense, Auburn was 2nd tier, A&M was playing 19 freshmen, Ole Miss, State, and Arkansas were so good their coaches all got fired.

You beat Texas. Who hoo. So did Baylor. So did TCU. So did Iowa State. Texas was so good both coordinators got fired at the end of the year.

You beat Oklahoma, who's only quality win was Baylor.

I'll give you Clemson, who wouldn't have beaten Ohio St. If the targeting rule wasn't retarded, and Florida, which is the most impressive win.

Georgia? Meh. Good defense but terrible offense. South Carolina exposed them.

Rankings are just a number given by the media. LSU beat 2 really good teams and a bunch of pretty good teams.

You can say that about every national champion for the last 50 years.

Yeah, no one was a threat. Tennessee, FSU, Colorado, OSU.

Yes. Except LSU was one play from losing to a team that lost to Minnesota.

As I said, Nebraska was never in danger of losing the entire year.

which is better for the resume, a 21-20 win vs the #5 team or a 42-14 win vs the #20 team?
A 21-20 win vs #5 is far and away better in every circumstance.

Absolutley. I am stunned someone is saying differently

I mean I haven’t ever even heard it hinted at that someone is using a win over #20 d more impressive than a win over #5

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

So team A faces the #5 team at home. They have fewer than 50 yards of total offense. They never cross the 50 yard line. The #5 team repeatedly drives but only hits 2 fg's due to badly timed turnovers and penalties. The #5 team has 8 times the total yardage of team A. With 5 seconds left, team A is at its own 20. They run a series of laterals with some of the most egregious uncalled penalties (forward passes, holding) ever, and score a miracle TD to win 7-6.

Team B goes on the road to the #20 team. They are up 42-0 at the end of the first. They go to second, and then third stringers and are still dominating. Up 70-0 in the third quarter, they start pulling make a wish kids with a dream to play a down of football out of the stands to play QB. Team B's O line is so dominant that little Tommy rushes for over 100 yards despite being so ill he can't run more than 10 consecutive steps. Team B wins 84-0.

We're supposed to completely ignore what happened on the field and be like "5 is better than 20!"

Now that's funny.

23 points on 70 plays, but they could score 31 on 4?

They beat Auburn by 3. A fumble return, interception return, kick return, anything could've happened and they'd be 14-1 right now.

Tua doesn't drop the ball and they may be 11-2.

Greatest season ever? Greatest team ever? Laughable.

my scenario has LSU scoring from within the 10 yard line, your scenario is a special teams or a defensive touchdown. Which one is more likely?

lsu was up 33-13 at the half and bama NEVER has the ball with a chance to take the lead

It wouldn't have been 33-13 at the half if he doesn't drop the ball.

And Bama was kicking arse in the second half. They just ran out of time.

The best team ever having the best season ever beat a team having its worst season in 10 years by 5.

And beat a team who lost to Minnesota by 3.

Enjoy the natty. It was a great season. But don't come in here with this greatest of all time bullshite.
