If it sounds too good to be true, it always is.

This btw is a recurring nightmare I have about my vanguard account. Really what you "own" is numbers on the screen. Is this paranoid + irrational? yes. Will that stop me from worrying about it? no.

Old people still don’t fundamentally understand that everything on the internet should be assumed to be a scam until proven otherwise. It’s weird because it was innate to me as a tween playing around on filthy AOL chat rooms in the late 90s.

Honestly. Your inlaws are just financially stupid. It's not that they are boomers, they are just dumb.

It's not just boomers. These people are incredibly stupid and you've married their daughter. Hopefully she didn't inherit their 'stupid' gene.

They don't sound very smart to begin with if they are Boomer age with only around 150k saved up

Median 401k balance for people in their 60's is like 200k, so they're not too abnormal.

Sad they wouldn’t talk to you about it before they put money in. Older people have a bad combination of lack of technological savvy, impulsivity, and pride sometimes.

Foreign scammers preying on older Americans is way too common. I’m all for letting SEAL team 6 get regular practice sessions taking out African or Asian scammers.

I love watching American Greed but sometimes I do cringe at the retired people who lose it all.

Sounds like what an alter would say.

I also noticed you didn’t have to ask what an alter was mister “new” poster.
