There's more, but I'm getting bored with you, so I'll hang up now.

Actually I've left Manila. I'm sitting in the business class lounge in the Seoul/Inchon, Korea airport now. I have a five hour layover for my connection to Atlanta so that's why I've had so much time to post on TD. It's 8:33 AM Thursday here now.
How's this for funny? I leave Seoul at 10:05 AM local time and arrive in Atlanta at 10:45 AM Atlanta time, the same day. 13.5 hour flight and arrive 40 minutes later. Damn that plane must be fast!!!

back to shorts...

I feel good like I am fighting the whole Wall St. charade. When buying a hot stock I feel like I am giving in to a pimp.

Finding losers can many times be a lot easier than finding winners anyway.

There's mutual funds that short stocks if direct purchase guilt is an issue. The Rydex family has quite a variety.

Me shorting the stock has nothing to do with them laying folks off etc.. Stocks go up and down normally. What's wrong with profiting when they go down. It doesn't mean I wish them ill will. I feel no guilt.

Not at all.

It's just like playing the Don't Pass Line at craps.

I'm not saying you shorting stocks causes a company to lay off employees.

I'm saying to me it feels a little like I'm profiting from someone's misery when I short stocks. Look at the the other thread going now on George Soros. He's a perfect example of someone who has made a ton of money from other people's sufferings in this economic crisis. And many of us believe he is a SOB for it.

Nah, people think he's an SOB for being a liberal, and this makes him a good target.

Just curious, when you sell short, how long do you have to cover? Does broker charge interest for the time before you cover?

Both answers depend on how much cash you have in your account. If you have the cash to purchase the stock (to return it to wherever it was borrowed for the SS) excluding the cash you got for the short sale, then my broker (Schwab) does not charge any interest. I don't know about other brokers.

+1

Hell, I hope bad things happen to teams visiting Tiger Stadium. Don't feel dirty about that at all either.

Besides, if you're either buying or shorting on hope, you're doing it wrong. The way you bet shouldn't have anything to do with hope, but rather on what you think is likely to happen. You're just along for the ride.
