re: What’s the catch with these betting apps?

You’re full of shite. I put in a few hundred, got 600 in bonus money. All I had to do was bet 600 dollars to get a free 600 dollars. On top of that, I’ve received 500 in free bets through various promos. In my bets alone I’ve doubled my deposit but also have well over 1k in free money. I’m about to withdraw well over triple my input and use that money towards another app with a good promotion and do the same thing. Then play with a little house money and never look back if I lose it.

enjoy watching sports. It's a break for me. If I had money riding on games... it would either change how I watch the games, and/or my relaxation with games would cause me to make bad betting decisions.
I pretty much stopped gambling on sports once it stopped being enjoyable. When I had money on games and I didn't even watch them, that was an issue

Is this just to try to get me addicted?
They usually have some sort of rollover stipulation with the free money but it is very easy to do. I put $400 across the 5 apps when they first launched and will be cashing out tomorrow with about $2000 and a few hundred left for play money. I didn't do anything crazy with betting either. Pretty much all of that is free bet winnings, deposit match, or bonus cash.

I did three promos on ceasers(sick promo) fanduel and draftkings won all three. Was able to immediately cash out two

All of these books handing out massive freebies is interesting to say the least - makes you wonder how sustainable this model is.
This space with online betting is all pretty new so it will be interesting to see how freebies are parsed in the future.

This level of freebie is only for new registration.
They do promos with free bets and boost promos occasionally for existing users, but nothing like new user bonuses.

I'm aware, but these new customer bonus are unprecedented. Back in the all-offshore days you'd get like a deposit bonus match at best, maybe only a 50% bonus. As another comparison, you walk into a brick and mortar casino you get absolute zero in bonus.
Now they are literally giving away $300 in free bonus cash just for signing up. FanDuel, DK were giving it all away and not even requiring deposit. Bet $1, and if Burrow or Mahomes completes a pass, you get $200 bonus cash. That's nuts.
That was never a thing in the dark days of offshore books.

I put $100 on the coin toss and won! I don’t care about the $400 honestly. I mean obviously you can’t just withdraw it, because that’s what I would have done. Instead I bet on random stuff just trying to make a little money. I’ll make 2 more $100 bets, likely lose, and then I’m out.
I signed myself and my wife up for Caesars and made a bunch of prop bets including the coin toss. We turned her "free" $300 into $279 and mine into $259.
So we turned a total of $40 into $538. Not bad if you ask me; I'm cashing out this week and putting the money in my kids' mutual funds.

As long as one budgets their entertainment, no big deal. But we know that everyone can't do that.
It is a disaster.
Remember all those roads, bridges and schools the Casinos were going to build. We still live in a crap hole.

You're underestimating the size and scope of the gaming industry. Statistically, it's a mere flesh would for the casinos who, in the long view, are risking cheap cheese to catch very big rats.

I'm like the only person in our state that voted against casino's. Same here, it's just a tax on the poor and uneducated :(

you won't win house table games long term but you can sports betting if you have systems and know WTF you are doing. i do it year in and year out with MLB and NHL. is it easy? nope. you have to track, research, study and evolve. i use plenty of tony stoffos pro systems plus my own.
Correct.
Difference is you're betting against the public and the book makes money off the vig.
With table games it's pure odds and you're betting against the house. Roulette is a pure game of chance and the payouts are structured so the expected value is in favor of the casino.

This is an old thread but the end game is clear. The top apps are getting you addicted with promos. Eventually they shift the odds more in their favor.
The saving grace is new apps are popping up all the time and continuing the cycle.

You can absolutely make free easy money using the sign up offers through these apps. They are banking on the average customer not maximizing the bonus and losing money over time through the allure of gambling.

Then math does it's thing, and the long term odds take most of it back, and the House is the long term winner. (The math is defininely on their side, as they take piece on every play.)
yep, the juice is not your friend. If you hit 50% of your bets and 10% juice you will be in the hole.
If you are a $100 bettor, to win $100 on evenly juiced odds, you must bet $110.
Say you make 300 bets/year
If you hit half of your bets you would make $15,000 but the other half of the losing bets would make you -$16,500. So if you hit 50% of your bets, you are still down -$1,500.
Needless to say, people bet way more than 300 times a year and do not hit 50% of their bets.
