If they are in a taxable brokerage account, I believe the only option is to sell them, which you’ll have to pay capital gains tax on, then re-buy them in your Roth, which will go towards your contribution limit. I believe, but someone please correct me if wrong.

Regardless of how it is "done" by the brokerage, this will be the tax process regardless. So whether you actually have to sell in brokerage, transfer cash, then buy in IRA, or you just "transfer" directly to IRA in a single step, the tax implication will be the same as basically selling in your taxable and buying in your ROTH. *Not a CPA and I've only ever transferred cash into an IRA, but this is my understanding*

Yes I think contributions to a Roth can only be cash.

So far in my stock searching I got EBF on the watchlist.

For funds, VOO and I'm liking FCNTX. FSELX has been great to me, I sold a bunch of that high in January and I'm thinking about plugging that back in.

People talking about buying the dip makes me think that we are nowhere near the bottom. I still think it is wise to continue to contribute to retirement, but I don't think now is the right time to load up. Load up when you and your neighbors can't afford to pay your mortgages. That is where real money is made.

Too many unknowns on whether this becomes that kind of situation. All it takes is a strike of the pen and a headline for Trump to cause the market the skyrocket in recovery.

My goal is to continue to buy SPYI until I get to $1 million which translates to dividend income of around $100,000 a year. Plowing more $$ in tomorrow. Great buying opportunity here.

Not yet for me. Last week was a hard break to the downside on volume (institutions, fund managers, etc). Market is currently in a downtrend.

Day trading the spoos and the bonds aside, I'm looking for balance in the S&P, then go with a break back to the upside should that occur, for my portfolio type trades..

Day and swing traders that are short can be squeezed, giving the appearance of a bottom with the subsequent short term rally (weakens the market). Especially if the rally or previous day(s) trading is off of TA levels and relatively low volume, then most likely a squeeze. And the end of every down move normally looks like capitulation on excessive volume with divergences. Then maybe another downleg... lol.

I don't trade off of financial news... too much cognitive dissonance. The market generates the info..

Had to get NVDIA at $96 this morning.

Looks like NVDA may open in the mid-80s tomorrow. Still free falling across the board.

Why wouldn't I have stocks in my Roth IRA? They grow tax free. You need both taxable and non taxable income in retirement so you can pick which bucket of cash makes the most sense from year to year for you.
