Go back to 2010-2019 and you'll see etf threads at the top of the page and such. It was the gold standard advice to newbies..now it's Shiba unu and gme and stuff like that. And people are actually rewarded for that crap if they having lucky timing.
It's the difference in investing and speculating.

Your schtick is overplayed. I'm supportive of crypto and have been following it since the Wiki days.
Crypto and traditional investment assets live together. One doesn't replace the other. Crypto is another asset class that enters the financial planning equation. Lower correlation to other assets also creates a nice way to take on increased risk in a portfolio.
I don't personally find much interest in stock picking, especially speculation around meme stocks or crypto. My interest has always been in the path of financial discipline.

Basically... Will be interesting as the trends reverse over time if new investors that get burned will be the new generation that says the market is fixed against them.
Funny for a little while everyone was all in on ark funds etc. People even investing their whole portfolio. Now this board says she is a moron whenever ark funds are brought up.
Gamestop has been dead money, and everyone shifted to crypto. It is an endless cycle.

You know who that guy is right? Mark Minervini…
A successful trader blowing all his competition out of the water in the United States Investing Championship.
“The leader in the $1,000,000+ stock division after six months is Mark Minervini, + 223.4%. Mr. Minervini is the author of two best-selling trading books, Trade Like a Stock Market Wizard and Think & Trade Like a Champion. He also finished first in the United States Investing Championship in 1997. “
Boohoo if he doesn’t care about fundamentals.
And just in case you’re wondering, yes I’m Mark Minervini

Ah forgot about him! His pumping of the Phillip Morris stock because he sold a lot cigarettes at his gas station franchises and also because most Chinese people in mainland China apparently smoke a lot was as good an investment thesis as any I have seen on this board. He also loved Visa if I remember correctly and he wasn't wrong about that. He was also a fan of dividends. BTW did he ever end up buying his Tesla that he kept mentioning so often?

The last car I remember him whinging about was the Bentley (or was it a Rolls?) that he couldn’t get the title for. Sounded like a dealer had hoo-dooed him. Maybe like a CNC Motors situation, if anyone here is familiar with that sad saga.
Interesting character, but he was pretty full of himself.

He leased a Rolls.

You have a good memory. Ah yeah, that’s what it was. To each his own, but the dude was eaten up with conspicuous consumption. I used to have that same disease, but I grew out of it.
I basically stopped paying him any mind after he claimed to have done all this fundamental analysis on TSLA, and had it as a long term investment hold. But then he announced that he had sold his entire position because the RSI (a technical analysis TRADING indicator) flashed overbought.
But yeah, he was an entertaining character.

I could be wrong but I think he was a first or second generation Eastern European immigrant just happy as frick to be making money in America however he could. His exuberance could overflow into douchey, but I always tried to remember where he came from and how excited he was for the social and financial mobility possible here in America

With some of his over the top posts, he reminded me of the Jamie Farr character from Cannonball Run. I never knew the complete or actual story about him. I struggle to remember, but didn’t he inherit his gas stations from a relative? And there’s no shame in that. But some have to learn the hard way (I did) that your worth is about more than how many commas are in your net worth. It took me a long while to shed my 80s mentality.
I didn’t dislike him or anything. I just stopped paying much attention to him.
