Get your arse back in school and get more education, do something you like. I have 3 degrees, didn’t start my career until 33… it’s never too late.

This. And why are retirement benefits poor? If it’s a state job I have a hard time believing that.

Personally, I’d stick it out until you can get retirement.

There’s few jobs better than teacher to be able to work on a side hustle or a second career. I’d find a side hustle to take up your time and keep you busy and eventually turn into a second career.

Almost everyone gets burned out. If your friend has the entire summer off I’d suggest he do something like backpack Europe or Southeast Asia this summer to have something to look forward to.

Defense contractors in Camden AR are hiring a ton of people. Can start at $20/hr with all the overtime you want. They'll teach you what you need to know. The more you're willing to learn the higher the pay scale. They are all doubling capacity and adding new projects. Can be making $30/hr with some effort in less than a year. L3 Harris/Aerojet currently the best paying for new starts.

Run for office.

Start local, where a couple hundred votes can get you a job, then work his way up by keeping his name in the news constantly.

Sales or marketing. No real skill needed for either.

Real estate sounds like an easy choice

Look at companies instead of job definitions.

A liberal arts degree means you have the ability to learn a wide range of subject matter. A company with 100-250 employees will often want you to wear many hats. You'll also have a better chance of getting noticed by a department head instead of an HR flunky or automated screening.

There is an illusion of work / life balance. It usually is out of balance with one side demanding more attention that the other. This is the moment to make the work side of things the priority. Get into something that interests you, apply yourself, build those skills or specialized knowledge, and show up early and leave late to solve the current career crisis.

Oh and get a job before you leave the one you currently have.
