Agree about the slacks and button down if interviewing with plant staff. If you are interviewing with corporate folks for a plant manager job, the story might be different.

With whom exactly are you interviewing?

Not at the one I work. There may be some where it is appropriate, but a suit and tie is also not inappropriate.

Much less for a management position.

Yeah I'd like to know if the OP caught grief over the suit. I can't imagine why he would but I've never worked at a plant. Some folks are making it sound like there's a blue-collar mentality all throughout.
