I really have no idea. I wish I did.

I thought maybe it was today when the DJ30 recovered over 300 points in the last hour and a half of trading on some pretty heavy volume.

The low today must have triggered some hedge funds buy signals (maybe they read the Money Talk Board and saw the Money Talk Board Fear Factor Conta Indicator Buy Signal breeched ), but I think we probably have more downside to go. There's not enough fear yet.

We usually see a hedge fund or two announce they are liquidating and at least one significant corporate bankruptcy before capitulation kicks in.

Those low interest rates could only hold off the inevitable for so long

Good article "Has a Bear Market Started" by Urban Carmel.

Ton of information in it but one chart that sticks out imo is this one:

quote:

the financial sector and the government have also deleveraged, in sharp contrast to past recoveries. Total debt-to-GDP has decreased by 34.7 percentage points in this cycle (red line), compared with a median increase of 35.4 percentage points in past recoveries. So, again, lower non-consumer spending has dampened growth during this cycle.

spx and crude have blown thru my targets. have some lower ones but they're pretty scary. Dow30 was trading 3+ standard deviations below the 50 day moving average this week. Something that's only happened 0.6% of the time in the last 35 years. Above article seems to suggest this is a correction and not a bear.

Good post, thanks!

Dow futures have turned positive (+100 points) after ECB's Draghi said rates in Europe will probably stay where they are or go lower for an extended period of time.

Nice little 1.6% profit. Not bad for a day's work.

You flatter me. Seriously, I'm an amateur at stock picking. I've been lucky more times than I've been good.

I bought my first stock when I was in college and promptly lost my arse on it. No kidding. The company went bankrupt.

But as the old saying goes, "smooth seas don't make good sailors." I've just tried to learn from my mistakes when the seas got rough.

And I've tried to learn from other people's experiences, too. Please see my sig quote to get an idea who I've tried to learned from.....

This. I busted out twice before I learned good risk management. Since then I've had 4 good years and one bad one (last year).

Anyone who can beat the overall market 4 out of 5 years is probably in the top 5% of money managers worldwide.
