As of the end of 2022 she had 11,018 shares at a cost basis of $229.08. Obviously she's bought (and lost) quite a bit more since then. But on just those shares alone she's down $700K. She took out a HELOC to buy more shares, got a second job to buy more. This is a mental illness that we're dealing with.

That’s the price you pay when you’re the “FIRST Tesla S Plaid owner in Florida.”

Protip 1: Don't borrow money to invest in equities.

Protip 2: Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

She deserves to lose her money

Absent government intervention, we are reaching a point where most people that want an EV, and can afford it, already have one. Otherwise, the infrastructure and technology are decades away.

And a ten year old Tesla looks just like a brand new one. Not much incentive to trade up for current buyers.

Speaking of trading up, resale had been dropping like a stone as well. That happens when they continually lower the price of a new one.

I sold around 1000 shares of Cintas stock at $150 a share because at the time I had a lot more and my financial advisor said I needed to diversify

Maybe one of these days I’ll make the right move.

Whenever I buy and sell I tell myself “you’ll never sell the top and you’ll never buy at the bottom, just be happy and content if you turn a profit”

She hasn't lost until she sells. She strikes me as someone that is just going to keep acquiring though.

While technically true for investors (professional traders must use “mark-to-market”), the fact that she’s borrowed to purchase some of these shares means that she has an ongoing cost of ownership. And since TSLA doesn’t pay a dividend, she’s not receiving any income from the stock to cover the HELOC interest. So to make a net profit, her eventual exit will have to include her interest costs.
