I bought an option contract this morning when red, with it expiring today. Cashed out at $600 profit, but that was around 16% or so, and now its about 6% even higher. Usually it makes a good run at the end of the day, but didn't want to risk it with getting assigned, even though it wouldn't be a bad thing, but don't want to use that much margin for it.

GME is turning a red day into one of my biggest single day gains.

Not a ton. I’ve been supplementing a lot with calls

Glad y’all are hitting it big. Congrats!

It's rocketing now. Damn.

You all are making some serious bank right now holding. I’d consider a trailing stop or something.

Is Mr. left sweating a margin call now?

These last 40 minutes have been insane.

I sold about 25% of my position in the $50s
Still holding what’s now a 6 figure position.
Was in at $18

With Gamestop as his largest holding he either has a relatively small account, an incredibly high risk tolerance, or is an idiot making poor decisions...
Well it's probably not relatively small anymore ...

So this is what a short squeeze looks like. Crazy

How can game stop survive long term if consoles no longer take physical games?
Game stop basically has 2 niches:
Brick & mortar store for getting brand new consoles and games on release day with special perks packages offered through partnerships with game developers
Being a brick and mortar resale outlet for used games and consoles.
Unless game stop wants to purely be a retro gaming outlet, catering only to gamers playing out of date systems recycling out of print games, the future is extremely bleak for them. They already face stiff competition on the used physical games market from online marketplaces like ebay.
They have huge competition for new game sales from online stores and services provided by the game systems and game developers themselves like Steam, Origin, PlayStation Store, etc.
Many recent consoles already offered direct downloads of games onto systems without the use of physical discs through those same services. Next gen consoles are offering versions which don’t even include a drive which can take physical game disks.
If Gamestop can’t sell physical disks for new systems because those systems cannot take disks, then what can they offer? Game developers often partner with Game Stop with exclusive content to help drive sales on opening day. But, if customers cannot buy physical games, why wouldn’t they just purchase those downloads through another online service? Why would developers bother partnering with gamestop at all? Are players going to line up outside the door to purchase a download code? No way.
Gamestop looks like it’s about to go the way of the dodo bird due to changing technology that will forever segregate retro gaming with physical disks/cartridges from modern gaming all done via hard drives downloading games off of the cloud. For the latter, there’s no room in that niche for a 3rd party seller like gamestop when the consoles and developers can sell the games directly.
For the vintage physical gaming market, stores similar to gamestop selling vintage physical games will still exist, though likely not in anywhere near the number of physical locations that gamestop currently occupies. If gamestop is smart, they can reorganize to become the amazon of used video games just like amazon cornered the online book marketplace 20 years ago. They have more product on hand than anyone, with a massive network of buyers and sellers. With the right cost/location shedding strategy that maintains the convenience of buying/selling games the same day in purchase, service repairing aging consoles, while minimizing overhead costs, gamestop could survive in some form as a profitable company, but will never be the giant it was.

Pretty sure the chewy founder is transitioning them to be like a micro center and sell computer and gaming parts

Did you copy paste that or did you just spew a ton of garbage that none of us care about?

i gotta admit, i'm in this because it's a hilarious gamble of WSB vs Citron and i think they can pull it off
not because i'm "analyzing their business model for DD" ...

Those were my original thoughts about my take on gamestop as a viable company moving forward. I assumed such discussion was welcome in a thread about the risks involved in purchasing stock in said company.
