I sell high value assets (equipment) for a living and just broke off from my company where I had health care covered by my employer to now having to navigate covering healthcare for my wife and 3 year old (wife is stay at home).

Aside from Healthcare.gov and some scammy healthcare consultants who now blow my phone up 24/7 selling sketchy Indemnity Health Insurance, where does a White Man go who makes solid money (multi six figures) to get quality health insurance for the family. All the good PPO options are like $2k a month. I get that its a writeoff but $25k in sunk healthcare costs pisses me off.

Are there benefits consultants for freelancers/ small agency owners etc ?

Send me an email - lsutigerz2001@yahoo.com

I'm a partner in a company and choose to take my pay/commisison as a 1099. Health was a huge deal for me. I have a guy, based in KS, but I think licensed elsewhere, that is very good.

Pick one. A good family PPO plan is gonna run you 2k. If you hire a spouse and start a group plan you can knock a few hundred off but other than that it’s just the cost of doing business.

Absolutely this. With that said, find a local broker, or LSUshock’s guy, and get a plan that is tailored for your family’s needs.

Write off? What you mean

You can look at some of the sharing ministries, but they just did not appeal to me

I've recently started a side business and health insurance is a big obstacle for me to make the decision to leave my full time job. Think I pay $100 or $200 a month into an HSA and the actual monthly cost I don't see is less than $100. I don't use medical more than once every 2 or 3 years, but I'm no spring chicken anymore.

Is it $2,000 a month the cost for a family or individual? My wife has insurance but her insurance isn't as good as mine and it'll be more expensive through her company. Seems like no matter what I'll have to pay more for less coverage when the time comes.

Try to find a high deductible plan is about all you can do.

My corporate large group plan has a 5K ded which I never meet but will cover me if something disastrous happens. And costs me $500 + a month for me and one kid for my 1/3, company pays 2/3.

Mine does cover Rx and Dr's visits but everything else I pay "out of pocket".

I got stuck with a $4,500 CT Scan a few years ago

Not a CPA but my healthcare premiums should be a business expense and lower my gross income , no ?

That just gets you the plan, you also have to fund the HSA that will actually be used to pay for any healthcare.

Depends on your structure of your business and what not. It could be either way.

$2k a month for a family of 3-5 is very normal these days fwiw, I know you can find it for more but I'm not sure if you can get it a whole lot lower. Especially if you may have another kid in the future and need good care for your wife.
