Man, wish I had seen this last week before I traded my Tacoma in. I was actually surprised at how high their offer was, kinda wish I had asked for more. However, they did work with me on the OTD price on the new vehicle and I got just over 2200 extra off because of incentives/taxes on the trade.

A different dealer offered me four thousand less for it 2 months ago.

It's the hottest vehicle on the market. The majority of the dealer shipments are pre-sold before even reaching the lot, and the handful that don't get pre-sold will sell in a day or two above sticker

I've found a handful of out of state dealers willing to sell at MSRP, but basically only if you order it. If it's on the lot, they mark it up. Most are completely unwilling to come lower than a $4k mark-up, it's ridiculous.

Found one fully loaded SX somewhere in Texas and I inquired about the price, expecting it to be pretty jacked up. This dude comes back with $66,000. According to my calculations it's close to an $18,000 mark-up. L - O - L. I just laughed and hung up

We looked at an sx last week fully loaded with every option (maybe not awd). Had the new nightfall package as well. Msrp was like 48 and they would sell it to us for 51 and some change. Not ready to pull the trigger for another couple weeks so passed.

It sold later that day.

I was actually looking into information about making a first time used truck purchase. If it doesn't work out for a while that's fine under my current situation but I wanted to ask (and figured a new thread might be an annoyance) but do any of y'all have any opinions on any of the years between 2017 and now with Chevy and Ford trucks? Any bad years in anyones experience? I have an old 2007 f150 and I have had engine sputtering issues the entire time, wasn't sure if there were any hiccups people had experience with here on recent models that would be on the used lot now.

Yeah the used car market is insane, Its a whole industry that is dependent on trade in.

I was dealing used cars and I would tell people all the freaking time Its not what you think. The prices at auctions, Your better off buying off the streets. Im working because of the hits I took during My stint as a dealer.

Now if I would have started 8 years ago instead of 4, The tables would be drastically turned. The whole industry has changed and You will get eaten by bigger fish at those auctions.

A lot has changed in the Economy and Industry.
And it also depends on your location as well.
Its not what you think. Its what you know.

First month of the 'Rona, late April. Purchased from a dealer, a 2019 model mid size SUV, top of the line model/engine, that had a MSRP new of $36K, prob could have got to $31K new, paid $20,200 with 13K miles and spotless carfax.

Wait a couple months until rentals defleet and repos start coming back through the pipe again.

So you are thinking by September/October things may get a little better?

My old truck finally crapped out on me this weekend. I have been looking at 2019 F150s with about 30k miles for a while. The prices have risen about 3-4k from what they were going for in March..

Trying to decide what to do. I am not buying new. I am thinking about renting a vehicle for a few months if the used market is temporarily inflated and will return to normal in a couple months.. but if it will be like this for the foreseeable future I will just have to go ahead and bite the bullet.

Does my lease have a “purchase” option? Why could this not be used as similar to the “principal value” of a loan against a trade-in vehicle? Dealership takes trade, pays off loan (or lease), credits me equity as applicable?

Interested in this as well.

As part of a succession, my family will be selling a vehicle (2010 Camaro 2SS with 35,130 miles). I assume my easiest path is to just visit a handful of new/used dealers and sell to whoever gives me the highest offer.
