Explain this to me like I'm a 4-year-old girl with pigtails who just fell off my bicycle and hurt my knee while holding a sucker.

I don’t believe the Fed will move on a rate cut before they can observe the effects of the tariff merry-go-round.

Powell will never cut because he has a seething hatred of Trump.

Trump must remove him from office. He's an enemy of America. A complete traitor.

Wrong. That would be deflation. The correct statement is that costs didn’t rise as much as the experts expected, but they did rise.

Powell kept rates low during Trump’s first term which was pretty helpful to the administration. If any criticism could be leveled against him from that time, it’s that they kept rates too low for too long, which limited the tools at their disposal once the Covid years came.

I don’t think Powell approaches his job as personally as some folks like to believe. In my view, the Fed is trying to save their weapons for a time when it’s absolutely necessary to use them.

Powell is rightfully nervous to make sure they’re right this time after they were mocked calling inflation transitory last time.

I'm having a hard time understanding you. Can you please remove Trump's dick from your mouth and speak more clearly?

Damn, some of y'all are eat up with cult worship.

That would be year over year right? There was actual deflation month over month no?

Hasn’t the Fed historically sought a 2% inflation rate? It makes no sense for politicians to publicly pressure Powell to cut the Fed rate when their target for inflation hasn’t been reached. This scenario is more telling of the politician than the Fed chair.

Wrong. If you look at the Fed funds rate chart, you’ll see the Fed raised rates from 2016 to 2019. That’s most of Trump’s term. Trump was screaming at Powell over twitter to cut rates, which he finally did in Summer of 2019.

The Fed kept rates at under 0.2% for the entirety of Obama’s term. That’s who really benefited from loose monetary policy.

I thought the fed had been preaching a new normal in the 2.5%-3% range.

The Fed raised rates to 2.5 by 2019, which is very low historically (the historic average being 5.41), and maintaining rates that low for that long was likely an error that greatly contributed to the inflation that was seen post-2020.

Trump’s desire to have low rates during his first term weren’t a reflection of his economic intelligence, but lack thereof. I doubt that has changed.

I haven’t seen that, but if such is the case then that obviously changes my position in the conversation a bit.
