I hope our surge wasn't several hours earlier tonight than it's been the last few days. I've enjoyed waking up $20 higher.

eta: or we could crash before bed...

Can someone help clarify something for me. I'm new to this.

Me buying 1 ether or any of these currencies, Is this basically a bet that these blockchains will eventually take over the current financial transaction infrastructure?

Ethereum is one of many different distributed ledger platforms. Each DLT has its own tokens which can be transacted on its own platform. Each platform has different characteristics. Long term token value is determined by those characteristics, and how they apply to use cases in the real world.

The platform that's been predominantly featured in this thread (ethereum) is still several technical steps away from being able to do anything of true value in the real world, so people are speculating as to the value of the final product. Note that there is an appreciable chance that these technical challenges are actually unsolvable.

What happens down the road when the folks that have held on for a while want to cash out large sums of money into their checking, like 50 or 100k for example, will coinbase just do it as usual like it would for any other transaction? Any max limit? Any special paperwork or is it just up to the personkn to properly do their taxes?

I've tried to get 2 of my buddies on board that are pretty active in the stock market. No interest from either, so I stopped trying.

Anyone else have issues with indentity verification when signing up for coinbase. I've tried it but it's still asking me to verify. Can't buy anything.
