Question that maybe y'all can help with. I'm trying to roll over a previous employer traditional IRA through New York Life to a personal traditional IRA with Vanguard. I sent the letter of acceptance and instructions from Vanguard to NYL, and NYL is stating the need a "signed Vanguard transfer form" to cut the check.

I'm having a hard time finding info on what that form is, as Vanguard's own rollover instructions mention nothing about a transfer form.

Anyone know what that form is?

I think my wife and I were in a similar situation back in 2020 when we transfered our (then) 401k to Vanguard. I think we called the main number and told the person what we wanted to do and they routed the call to the appropriate person.

Do you have an advisor at Vanguard or an existing account? If not, I would just contact them and they will guide you through the process like they did with us. Hope this helps.

We have the account set up and everything's ready to go. I called twice and there was a 30 minute wait both times, which I don't have time to accommodate. Figured I'd ask here if someone had more info on that specific form.

It would be be a NY Life form requesting closure of the account and distribution of all vested funds from employer sponsored IRA account directly to Vanguard from NYL.

NYL needs official signed documentation to trigger the distribution.

Not from New York Life but I rolled one over to Vanguard a few months ago and it was a pain in the arse. The steps were different on each site and neither had the paperwork the other wanted. I called Vanguard and after a phone call that was longer than an hour they handled it.

That’s exactly what I interpreted, but NYL is adamant that the form needs to come from Vanguard, and vanguard is saying if NYL needs me to sign a form then they need to send me the form.

Hopefully I’ll have some time to call tomorrow and wait.

I appreciate the info.

I’ve done two rollovers, though neither with NYL. With that said, both of them required that I fill out their form in full and include the Vanguard acceptance letter. If you’ve already done both of those things, I can’t fathom what else they want.

Went through the same thing this week. The girl at Vanguard was extremely helpful and actually sent me the form already filled out through their portal. I just had to print and hand sign it. Canned it back in along with the statement from the account I was transferring to vanguard and upload it to a docusign link she sent me through the portal as well. Surprisingly easy.
