I disagree that eliminating the foundation requirements represents a dumbing-down of the program. On the contrary, it means you sink or swim with the course content whether or not you take pre-requisites. That could actually make the program tougher for someone who needs the foundation material but doesn't take the course(s).
This is a professional degree program. Compare it to another professional program, law school. Law schools don't require pre-law degrees. In fact, they're frowned upon. Instead, the schools are looking for educated, intelligent people from varied backgrounds who can succeed in the field. Business schools can successfully do the same.
My spouse went to one of the top law schools in the country and was told at orientation: "Look to the left and look to the right of you. We expect each of those people to be with you at graduation because you all have what it takes to succeed in this program. We've already done our culling."
Have some confidence that LSUS is maintaining some reasonable standard of admission and that this change represents the elimination of mandatory remedial work for those who don't need it and instead makes it optional for those who do. I think it's a win/win.

What time is everybody taking the ISDS 705 final tomorrow? I'm set for 3:50 central.

I can tell you that there are several schools that do this 1 credit hour pass/fail class as pre-req. USFSP's MBA (AACSB) is 2nd ranked in the state of Florida and it has 8, not 4 pre-req classes that you are required to take in order to start taking MBA classes. UL of Lafayette's new MBA program has no pre-reqs, the GMAT is waiverable and it is also AACSB. This is becoming the trend. As someone said, "sink or swim". If you struggle, drop the class and take the one credit hour pre-req and comeback. I can see both sides of this issue though.

I wish I could of held out for on more term. I am just now finishing up BADM 700 which they told me was a required prerequisite because I only had taken 2 out of 3 business courses.
Honestly, I thought the course was an absolute joke. No teaching, no exams, never even heard from the 'teacher'.
We only had homework through Cengage and you got multiple attempts to get correct. I made a 99 in the class and devoted about 1 hour per week to it. I'm glad to see the class go away. All it was to them as a money dump.

Has anyone heard from Meeks for MDAM 751?
We are a nearly week out and no sign of the syllabus or textbook requirements.

He is probably busy finishing out the MADM 760 course several of us are in. Our last few assignments were due at 11 pm last night. My MKT 701 Moodle page has nothing on it. It's basically a Moodle template

I just received the email regarding the foundation courses no longer required. I need some advice from those who have taken these.
Did you find these courses beneficial and a necessity to understand the material moving forward,
I don't have a business degree but from personal experience have a good understand of financial markets and economics.
If I can save money on something that's not a great learning experience I would like to?
Thoughts?

I don't have a business degree. However, my undergrad included plenty of quant classes including the calculus series, stats courses, etc.
If you have a good quantitative background, I think the statistics and econ side is well covered in the courses themselves, and wouldn't bother.
Everything is at a very basic level. Run regressions in excel, chart things using excel. Perform time value of money using a financial calculator or excel, etc.
I have 1 quant course left unless I take another as an elective--fin701 and the prerequisite of badm700 only covered a week or two of time value of money calculations. If you can do these already, don't bother taking the prerequisite course.

I didn't have to take the classes but imo there are cheaper alternatives to learning material you may not understand.

I'm enrolled in FIN 701 w/ Dr. Meeks and i'm trying to get a head start since he already posted all the material. Is there anyone out there that has the 15th ed textbook pdf by any chance?? dropping 200 on a book for a semester is not my first choice.
If there's anyone out there willing to help out please send it at: edwin.hernandez10@upr.edu

I would agree with that statement. Does anyone have eBook for badm 700 and 701 that I could take a look at the material to help make a better decision?

I had to take both. I do not have a business degree but have been running a multimillion dollar business for 30 years. The accounting was a basic accounting class and was basically re-taught in ACCT 701. I earned an A in both. Badm 701 fundamentals of Econ and Stat was a clarifier course for me. I had been exposed to those terms and seen the math over my career but it pulled it all together from a business school perspective. Both were a lot of work, some of it busy work, but it got me ready for future courses by exposing me to the time sink. This program and certain courses within it can take an incredible amount of time. I'm still running a business, raising kids, chairing multiple charity orgs, etc. Taking those two classes helped me figure out how to set up the rest of my life in order to complete this program. My advice is if you really know the material then bypass but if you have never been exposed or as in my case have been out of school for awhile you should start slow and maybe take one of the refresher classes. In both those classes, I walked away learning something new so I don't regret taking them. Good Luck, O

Those of you in Marketing for Fall AP1, this was posted on the Moodle page about 20 minutes ago:
Hello everyone,
I hope you've all had a great summer.
Just a quick heads up. Some Moodle testing is going on. All modules were suppose to be hidden, so to those of you that were confused by the multiple "test" posts, please do not worry!
I'll have the syllabus up by Monday, the 21st. Know that MKT 701 will be textbook-free, and all course content (notes, case studies, discussion questions) will be provided to you online via Moodle on a week-by-week basis.
Also, many of you are asking to have an early start and if I can have material accessible now. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to make course materials accessible until the first day of class (Monday, the 28th).
Best,
Aadel Darrat
