Obviously this is a loaded question..
but I just sold off a vehicle and have roughly 20k.

I know I could put it in some safe vehicles (bonds, mutual funds, CDs, HYSA, etc.) but what are some other ideas?

I have other safe investments so I have a little more leash to try something different with this cash. No I do not need this money for an emergency fund, but if that’s all I use it for I guess that’s OK.

Thoughts?

I hate the phrase it is money I can afford to lose.

Generally people who cant afford to lose it use this phrase and it makes no sense.

Based on the way you are asking the question, you are looking to basically gamble the money on a big play. I would suggest you readjust your thinking as 99% of people end up just losing the money.

Assuming you have maxed out retirement accounts, and have an emergency fund already setup.

Then just stick it in a brokerage and buy low cost broad index funds like Vanguard VOO

You want a lil higher risk ETF/Index, put it into QQQ. While it is more volatile, it focuses heavy on the tech side and it recovers a lot quicker on downturns (also its downturns are larger), than other ETFs. Right now is a dip after the big rally of a lil over a week. If we get into a bull run, your portfolio skyrockets. Again, more risk, but nothing like gambling.

Like Paradox said, go for VOO, VTI, SCHD. Those are set it and forget it.

If you want a lil adventure, SOFI and PLTR. Im dollar cost averaging in these 2 right now. They aren't volatile, but i wouldn't recommend throwing 20k in either. Just start out slow.

Max out a Roth IRA for both 2024 & 2025, low cost index fund.
