When you have behemoth type institutions like this with several very different business segments, you get things like this happening all the time. Not that big of deal, although you can bet we'll get at least a couple very stupid fricking statements from Congress about it.

Yeah, this thread is misleading, but didn't JPM actually bet against its own CDS a few months back, pushing the envelope on the perpetual motion banking machine?

Not really.
The fund manager was just trying to make a profit for the clients and saw a great opportunity. The fund manager had no idea the chief investment office was selling huge amounts of contracts...as they shouldn't anyway.
Anyway...I find this very interesting.
