Investing New Cash - What would you buy today?
Posted on 7/22/26 at 2:20 pm

I'm looking to put some cash into a few stocks and want to diversify my approach.
My plan is to split it between:
-Long term buy and hold investments
-A few higher risk, short term trades
-Stocks with solid growth potential over the next year
What are you all buying right now?

this is kind of why I made this thread
Lots of stocks on page 2
But for your growth, I like NBIS, OUST, ELVA, FSLR, and QNT (especially below $60 though it has a longer time horizon).
NBIS and OUST earnings are 6 August. You might be patient and wait for more validation.
eta: RKLB looks like a great trade below $70.

Look at QQQ and SPY over the last 2, 5, and 10 years. If that kind of growth is good enough, why speculate on individual stocks?
Or buy LEAPs for '28, '29 way out of the money and see what happens if you trade stocks.

What is long term to you? What is short term?
Stocks with solid growth potential over next year: Research the AI infrastructure phase. Handful of industries that are the "picks and shovels" of that. If you can't decide on individuals, go SMH. This ETF holds a lot of the companies seeing boosts from all the CAPEX occurring.
Long Term Buy and Hold: i'd just stick with any etf/index fund like VOO, SPY, or something similar. individual stocks...Software companies. Cyber security companies. Software has seen downward trends due to rotation, but eventually the tides will turn back in their favor after the CAPEX phase plateaus. Software is on discount right now. There might still be some downward movement in the short term, but long term these have great opportunity in my opinion. They will be the operating systems for all of the CAPEX build outs. NOW, PLTR, CRWD are some i carry. Admittedly, my PLTR has a very low cost basis ($18) so I'm biased to that. I think it could still see downward movement so I would advise to DCA whatever amount you would think to invest at its current stock price. If $2,500 was your target, I'd probably split it up into a few lot purchases over a specific timeline.
High Risk Short Term: for gambling, just be sure you're okay with losing what you put in. or at least be able to stomach volatility. HGRAF, quantum stocks, nuclear. Not sure what short term means to you, but these types of stocks have huge swings on announcements. High Risk Short Term success comes from staying on top of meaningful news and updates from whatever company you're looking at. HGRAF can have 20% swings in a single day.
Good Luck. Share what success you have later on. I've hopped on a few winning stocks based on threads and posts in this forum.

Take a nibble at these. Bayou has done his homework. I’m nibbling but at etfs under AI and Solar.

I wouldn't buy anything right now since the market is correcting, but if you want to DCA, you can split up you buys into monthly or biweekly purchases of indices on the way down. Otherwise, XLE is a good buy right now IMO.

VOO
VOOG
SPYD
CVX
Chevron will dip some when the conflict ends, but the energy story will persist for awhile after imo. Companies were bringing in piles of free cash at $70, at $80/90/100 they will be printing bucks. Nat gas is starting to turn up as well. If Europe has a cold winter they are completely screwed. Normally they refill their reserves, due to the conflict, this yr they didn’t, I think they are sitting at 30-40% full right now.

learn to trade options, CSP and LEAPS.
start with these 2
SOXL and TQQQ
or just throw it all in qqq and voo

I appreciate you saying that.
HOWEVER, after taking a look at the White Paper that QNT produced with SoftBank, it’s clear that quantum is still quite far away!!
Be careful!

It’s all good. I’m long and just nibbling from the edges. This is nothing compared to my retirement account. It’s fun and I learn to teach my boys. (Full disclosure I have a background in finance/tax analysis). My big moves are in retirement and tax planning.

But I bet it helps you keep you on your toes to post this. Due diligence my friend. It’s a pessimistic world with plenty of opportunities!

(SPSM)State Street's S&P 600 Small Cap ETF (SPSM). It is an ultra-low-cost fund with an expense ratio of just 0.03% that tracks the performance of the S&P SmallCap 600 Index
I bought today to rebalance a bit since I'm predominatly in S&P500 and Tptal Market funds that are way to concentrated in mega cap.
I liked the idea that the index screens for profitability.
For context, roughly 40% of the companies in the alternative Russell 2000 Index are structurally unprofitable because that index does not filter for earnings.

To be clearer, the fact that they put their failures front and center means that they are reputable, and it’s worth a trade.
But as far as long term goes, they are still in the “revenue from research funding” phase.

R&D ain’t free. It cost the most.
ETA: I used to provide due diligence for Credit for Increasing Research Activities (Research Credit) back in the 2010s. Fun times.

Haven’t done a leap or any options yet. Like to get my feet wet if not for me but for the boys to understand.
