Only one single stock in the green today in my portfolio, HOOD. The shorts are laughing at me for buying Rivian on Monday. Today was a gut punch, I'm getting too old for this shite. No matter how hard I try, I can't escape the human element of FOMO and have to buy stocks like RIVN that are in the news. Completely ignoring the oldest rule of thumb in the book, SELL ON THE NEWS!

Why RIVN? why do you think this is going to be a good company in time, what do they do, build, or deliver that nobody else does?

My 2 cents, just like building a company.... find a Nitch that NOBODY else occupies, determine if there is a NEED, and what you are going to do fills it and can't be done by anyone else with more money.

Find those companies and invest in them.

I fell for the 300-mile range for the smaller and cheaper R2 with the R3 crossover being built on the new R2 line. It might still get there but I knew I was buying into a bull trap, but couldn't help myself for FOMO. Lost 20% in 5 days lol.

Sounds like you should determine what you trade, then take the opposite position to your instincts.

I just don’t see any appeal in Rivian as an investment.
So many are holding just because they think it will be the next Tesla.

It almost certainly won’t.

If it makes you feel a tad bit better, you could have been long FSR. -8.7% on Rivian is a heck of a lot better than -51.4% on Fisker. Even TSLA was down another 4.1% today.

Just a bad time for EV and lithium plays.

Rivian is a shite company. Ruined good farm and rural land and now they aren’t going to build a fricking thing there.

Oftentimes we see people trade on the notion that they can sometimes make money through the purchase of overvalued assets — items with a purchase price drastically exceeding the intrinsic value — if those assets can later be resold at an even higher price.

We saw it in tulips, the dot com period, meme stocks, bitcoin, and beenie babies.

It’s the hope that there is always someone else out willing to pay an even higher price for things that have zero or very little intrinsic value

Dude - Soccer Board.

But seriously, that sucks. You need to get out of a "news" mindset and into a "fundamental value" mindset. I have no idea what the Rivian fundamentals are, but I notice you don't mention them anywhere.

The key is to lose most of your money early and fast. From there, it’s all uphill…maybe.

You are literally saying exactly what your problem is and you can't stop it.

I deal with the same emotions sometimes and it is a challenge to not jump in

It sounds like you have a gambler’s mentality, not that of an investor or even a trader. Serious question: do you like or engage in sports or table gambling too?

No offense, but as long as you continue doing what you’ve done in the past, you’ll continue to experience these types of severe drawdowns.
