Upstream engineering. It is a little bit of a unique position, especially for land I have come to find out. DW the offshore support and leadership is deep and capable, usually.

I had no idea nor was it represented that I would be 24/7. I thought and it was presented as a PM job.

No lie, we were having some possible casing issues so I am talking with the "Completions engineer". He is clueless on how to troubleshoot and asks me what I recommend so I have him send me the wbs. I literally asked him where is the rest of it when he sent it to me.

Very few spoiled soft DW boys can make it in the real oilfield.

There was a baw that posted in a thread awhile back and his hate for DW was pulsating in his post.

If you've never been a job hopper before you can leave whenever you want. One short stint doesn't look bad at all.

Can you move to back to DW with your current company? I would assume you are with CVX based on you talking about a major. I left them awhile back and haven’t looked back.

I would leave asap and have your reasons ready for the inevitable question about it.

I wish it was CVX, it is the two letter company no one likes. The subsidiary is three letters.

And I am not sure, I am going to check but I would imagine they would want me at least a year in my current position.

I actually had two offers, one from the DW group and one from the land division. The land one actually paid a decent amount more which shocked me.

I did it. It took me three weeks. Basically I was sold a bag of goods that was no good. 25% increase in pay (almost $65k/yr, EVP, change of control agreement etc etc etc. too good an opportunity to pass up career wise.

Got there and everything they told me they did lending was was false. Brought in almost $50mm of strong deals in the first two weeks and got shite on.

Hardest thing I ever had to do, but I tucked my tail and went back to my former boss and CEO and told them I f’d up. Luckily I’ve always left on good terms, was always their top producer and had done a shite ton for the company the previous 4 years so they took me back.

Large lesson learned in both life and this stage of my career (I’m 50). I always know the grass isn’t greener on the other side, just another shade of brown, but it was a lot more to it than that.

Start looking as soon as possible, I agree with the others here. No reason to worry, in my opinion.

I took a job and within two months I wanted out.

I was contacted by a former co-worker to come work for him at his new company in month five. It was a big promotion. When I resigned they were shocked, but understood once they found out I doubled my salary.

Get another job first then quit

What sucks is we have to pay back a pretty big sign on bonus but the new company will reimburse us but there’s going to be tax shite we have to figure out so make sure you think about that.
The first year I had to pay Quarterly Estimates, I was bitching to my CPA about having to remember to do so.

She flatly responded to me that she wished she had to pay them.

Her inference wasn’t lost on me, even to this day.

Your situation as described adds a single event to your tax situation for one or two years, no big deal.

I don't see any issue with exploring other options but I also might have a convo with the new boss and explain to him your pov/issues and see if they are able to resolve. Unless you fundamentally don't like the company then just move on

Lead nighttime roustabout. I am magician with the mop and pressure washer but the overbearing pressure of keeping this floor clean is killing me.

Yeah the older you get and the more experience you get you start to learn that phrase very well. Had a co-worker leave/quit for about 4 months only to return with tail tucked between legs. I never said a word but the grass greener lesson always has to be learned the hard way.

Did they give you a raise for coming back or extra benefits?

Not initially. I had no leverage in the situation. They’ve taken good care of me since I returned though (about 2 years ago now).
