Tech bulls may not have to wait much longer for fresh highs, if the single-biggest trade in the Invesco QQQ Trust ETF
on Thursday is any indication.

The trader spent $24 million on a three-part call spread that needs the Nasdaq-100 index to make an all-time high by the end of this month, a high-conviction directional bet and the third-biggest trade among all options exchanged on Thursday.

Despite recent volatility, the Nasdaq 100
has been effectively flat since May 14. The index last made a high on June 3, with most options volume centering around the $710 level, according to data from ThinkOrSwim. At the same time, the S&P 500
has been trading in a roughly 200-point range since early May.

The main piece of the bullish position, executed about 90 minutes after the opening bell, was a $30 million purchase of 28,000 736-strike calls expiring July 31. At the same time, the person sold $6 million worth of the 730/740-strike call spread expiring the same date, lowering the cost of the trade, but pushing the breakeven up to about $750 – less than $2 above the QQQ high from early June

Interesting…
That’s oddly specific for an index.
Not complaining. Just wondering what kind of event(s) would move the whole market that much.

Not as much money by far - but there was an odd call placed on NOK for July 31 too. Like a mil placed on NOK with a 7/31 date which was a multiple of the open interest. That’s a short fuse for a million dollar trade. Highly specific.

When I looked the amount of volume on NOK calls was surprising.

I told my butler to not spend his entire bonus in one place. Guess he did.

This means that this person believes the stock market will hit all time highs by the end of the month?

Found an extra 25m in my vacation home closet. Decided to throw 20m in the market and spent the leftover on hookers, blow, and Iraqi dinars

Can someone give me the simple explanation on the seller's positions here. The market was obviously large enough to absorb this kind of purchase, but what are the positions of the sellers that will make or lose them money?

the calls bought are the bullish position the calls sold are a small hedge. Breakeven on the entire trade is QQQ 750 by 7/31.

The sold calls dampen the upside a little (as those will lose money if the bought calls make money
