My student loans are finally be paid off. Started out owing $90k and just kept plugging along and today I wrote a check and went ahead and paid off the remaining balance. 12 years ago, I never thought this day would come.

Wow.

I had 150k (I borrowed more than I needed and let the interest accrue during school, which turned 120k of actual principal borrowing into a 150k balance when I graduated - stupid) and have never met anyone who had more student loans than me.

It was worth it for me (will pay off next year - 10 years out of school), I hope it was worth it for you!

And I was worried about potentially having to pay off $30k for my girlfriend if we were ever to get married. Her sociology degree won't pay it for damned sure.

Congrats. My SO is working hard on paying hers off... we're pretty sure that ACS has misapplied and "prepaid" interest with past payments so I've forced her to start watching it like a hawk.

Yep, if you can withhold getting loans, the Guard can pay for everything else.

I didn't have student loans but I know how you feel. It was when I paid off my mortgage.

Congrats.

Paid mine off TODAY. Even thought about starting my own thread!

My payment history was poor and they threw me into default...then churned the loan for collection fees.

Up to $59k...was able to compromise and settle at $43k.

Mailed them a check this morning for the $43k, borrowing against my CDs. So I got the Feds out of the loan administration business and in three years I will have $43k in da bank!!!

I'll have about 60k from undergrad/law school, I'm so glad my law school is free otherwise I'd be in the 250k ballpark

Congrats

You are to be congratulated. Feels great doesn't it?

Remember to keep your payment records FOREVER.

Make sure you get the letter from them that confirms the loans were satisfied. I'm tired this morning and can't remember the name of the document, but when you get it KEEP IT FOREVER.

They told me I will be receiving a balance paid in full letter for my loan, as well as my wife. The letters will go directly in the safe.

Congratulations on being free from that witch, otherwise, known as Sallie Mae. I was there in 2009. Took me 11 years to pay off $63,000 from LSUMC, mainly due to opening my own practice and going into more ridiculous debt.

Congrats dude, I'm sure it's an amazing feeling
