I know I'm not, not even close (as obvious by my post count )

I still consider me being at the office about 45 hours a week to be "work" though since I'm not doing what I want to be doing

shite I do. I work 60 hours a week and maybe 3 of those is spent shooting the shite. In the 2 years since I started my current job I don't think I've worked less than 40 hours a single week, maybe my first christmas there. I don't make 100k fwiw. I'm 27 and don't have a family though so I always thought these were the years I paid for a sweeter setup when I retired. Oh yeah, Adderall is the greatest thing ever.

I actually discuss it with my friends and family. It can be a mistake, but I think the concept of money being a taboo topic is a disservice to us all.

My wife just accepted an executive level position with a different company and is set to receive an 81 % pay increase.

Her mom keeps asking and hinting around wanting to know what she is now making, but we're of the opinion that some things are best left unknown when dealing with family.

I'll pull down a 60 hour week a few times a year, even then I'm not "working" all of those 60 hours, just at work. I am working probably 50+ hours those weeks though.

I made the mistake of mentioning my recent pay raise and giving an answer.

Never again.

There's a part of us that would love to be able to share with her parents that we are doing well. But then there's also sensible part of us that says, "no way."

Sounds like there is a good chance your company probably has a working relationship with the company I work for.

What firm? Not to be a dick but that doesn't say much, I manage my company's office in Nashville and I don't make $200k.

We just give the standard "we're doing alright but things can always be better" line.

....ain't no way...no way I'm going to share that here.

It's a private consulting Civil Engineering firm. You can draw enough from that.

It's strictly civil? Not multi discipline?

What's the issue? Are they going to ask you for money, or question what you do with it? I don't mind sharing that info with my family, because I know they'd never ask me for anything. They are actually really proud of me.

ETA: I didn't mind sharing that info when I was first out of college making shite money, or now that I do much better. It's just never been an issue for me. Some people (my in-laws) are really guarded about the subject. I've never understood that.
