Fox Business has discovered the Smackover Formation and SLI.
quote:
A new study led by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) found a large amount of lithium reserves in southwestern Arkansas that could help meet rising demand for lithium in electric vehicle car batteries.
USGS worked with the Arkansas Department of Energy and the Environment's Office of the State Geologist to examine a geological unit known as the Smackover Formation to determine the amount of lithium in brines that are co-produced during oil and gas exploration.
The study estimated that there are between 5 million and 19 million tons of lithium reserves present in the formation. While that estimate was of the amount of lithium in place and didn't assess how much of that is technically recoverable, if the reserves can be recovered commercially, the low-end estimate of 5 million tons would be enough to meet the world's projected 2030 demand for lithium batteries in electric vehicles nine times over.

This news is catching a lot of attention.

It popped up on my wife’s instagram feed along with mom influencers, the Kardashians, and Taylor Swift.

It's just aggravating as heck that this bureaucratic BS couldn't have worked itself out while SLI was waiting for their date to show up and take them to the prom.

I get the feeling we're about to go on another little ride soon.

a good ride or bad ride?
Posted on 10/24/24 at 12:51 pm to SmackoverHawg
Is this a feeling or do you know something. I'm drinking prison wine right now buddy

I just realized after all these years that your username is the name of the formation

I thought SLI got acquired
Posted on 10/24/24 at 1:41 pm to bayoubengals88
Not quite. They sold 45% of their two big projects and kept the other 55%. They still own 100% of the small project

Koch Inks First Lithium Deal Backed by Recovery-Rate Promise
Posted on 10/28/24 at 7:12 am to Flowbe209
SWA Lithium and Koch Technologies Sign License for First Commercial DLE Project in North America
Link to PR.
Timing of this is interesting. I wonder if the guaranteed recovery rate and third party licensing of Koch Tech is going to weigh into their upcoming royalties hearing as protected IP when the judge asks to see proof of feasibility.

Do any of these recent deals preclude SLI from entering into agreements with other majors such as XOM?

I don't think it explicitly precludes it.
I know the Lanx agreement gave Lanxess ROFR for that project.
Koch's involvement has already seen a huge Equinor partnership, so theirs wasn't exclusive.
Now, Standard doesn't really have any more equity to give away on the other projects if they want to keep majority control, so the nature of the Equinor deal likely makes it impossible for any other majors to get involved on the production side.
So, contractual restrictions? Maybe not. Conceptual restrictions? Almost certainly so.

Have no clue. Not to my knowledge. There have been local rumors of Exxon partnering with SLI for DLE, but that's nothing I can substantiate.
