Hand up, I was wrong. That’s on me. Truth be told, I am glad that Truist did not fail and still employs many people. Happy new year!
That ending was absolute garbage. But…young Catherine is fine as frog hair and I hope to see more of her work in the future.

Koch Inks First Lithium Deal Backed by Recovery-Rate Promise

When is truist going to go bellyup because of that piper?
This is a prediction thread, not a crystal ball thread. It’s fine to disagree with a prediction. Why are so many sensitive about Truist? It’s a stock just like 100s of others that get discussed on this board.
The argument can be made that MSFT would not have the market value is has today if Gates or any other single individual held a 45% stake. There would be a discount due to it being closely held. Bill is probably ok with giving up the stock for the reasons you mentioned such as diversification, philanthropy; and most important, liquidity. I imagine his post IPO life has been exactly the same with a net worth in the billions as it would have been with a net worth in the trillions.
I’m long KRE and continue to buy monthly. Today’s FOMC statement omits the prior sentence that “The US banking system is sound and resilient.”

NY Community Bank had a terrible earnings report. At first glance, it appears to be a kitchen sink quarter to set the stage for 2024, rather than a troubled bank concern.
The entire industry is competing for liquidity. It’s not coming from deposit growth so it has to come from somewhere. In addition to the planned insurance company sale, Truist shut down fixed income sale & trading in 2023. It was a profitable business for them so the reasons why remain unclear other than the ambiguity of “strategy review and alignment.”
FRCB and SBNY both paid a dividend 12 months ago. Where are they today?
Their CRE time bomb is ticking and they have been in expense cutting mode for a while. Shut down entire lines of business. But it hasn’t been enough and eventually you have to pay the piper.
2024 bank failure predictions
Posted by Flowbe209 on 1/25/24 at 11:31 am
12 months ago the failures of Silicon Valley Bank, First Republic Bank and others were not on anyone’s radar. Let’s use this thread to discuss potential failures this year and how to profit. I’ll start by calling for the downfall of Truist. US Bank will cherry pick the assets and branches in an FDIC assisted deal and greatly expand their footprint in the south. Do not post material non-public information in this thread.
Disclosure: I own KRE.

No they do not. If they accept an offer there will be a background section in the disclosures that discusses other potential offers in vague, general terms. If they reject an offer the attempted acquirer can go public in what is known as a hostile takeover.

I have a 2005 4Runner with almost 200,000 miles that does something very similar. It has done so since I bought it used in 2007 and never been an issue.

Taxing credit unions wouldn’t be a drop in the bucket to state or federal receipts. It would just give the bank lobby one less thing to use to deflect from their own issues. I agree that Navy, PenFed, etc are very much a bank; other than the ownership structure.

Mine turns 9 this month. Santa delivered him to my house for Christmas 2014. If you don’t want to ask Santa for one, you may want to take a look at Bon Aqua Brittanys in Bon Aqua, TN. It’s a little bit west of Nashville. It was a one man operation and I have no idea if he is still in business. The dog came AKC registered and is amazing family pet. I don’t hunt but the breeder did.

On the outskirts of El Dorado — heart of Arkansas’ 1920s oil boom — a company backed by Koch Industries Inc. is looking to dramatically speed up extraction of a battery metal essential to weaning the world off fossil fuels, while proving naysayers wrong in the process.
Standard Lithium Ltd. is working on the breakthrough inside a white warehouse near a massive chemical factory run by Germany’s Lanxess AG that feeds brackish wastewater into the facility. A cluster of pipes and tanks in the demonstration plant turn brine into a lithium compound within days instead of the year or more that traditional recovery methods take.

Getting crypto off coinbase (or any exchange)
Posted by Flowbe209 on 8/26/23 at 11:11 am
I have no intent to confirm my info with coinbase by September 23rd. When FTX went down I saw over and over again, “not your keys, not your coins.” What do I need to do in order to get my crypto off the exchange so that I still can buy/sell/transfer? For the IRS agents monitoring TD, this thread is purely hypothetical and I comply with all tax laws.

I had a pool built in my backyard when the HOA refused to open the neighborhood pool for summer 2020 because of Covid. I then worked behind the scenes to lead the effort to overthrow the HOA board and elect a slate of board members that had the ability to think for themselves and not blindly follow Fauci.

You won’t do a damn thing except glare at me enjoying the shade while you and your fat wife trudge through the sand to an empty spot. I’m here all summer while people like you come and go every Saturday. Sneer at me harder next time. Perhaps it will make an opening appear.

Banks are more than willing to lend at below market rates to a certain segment of the population that is highly correlated to criminals, knowing that a lot of it will default. It boosts the banks’ ESG scores and is officially known as the Community Reinvestment Act.
Fly fishing guide question
Posted by Flowbe209 on 4/18/23 at 7:28 am
Going on my first ever fly fishing trip in a few weeks. What is an appropriate amount to tip the guide? Half day float trip in East Tennessee/North Georgia. Any other advice for a first timer is also welcome. Goal is to have fun and have some father-son bonding.
Truist fixed income
Posted by Flowbe209 on 4/13/23 at 4:18 pm
Truist is getting out of the FI sales & trading business. It’s no secret that community banks (Truist’s customers) have low liquidity right now and aren’t buying bonds, but I was shocked when I heard. Do you think other dealers will follow or is this a unique situation for TFC following the Suntrust BB&T merger?
re: Can/should I use a VPN to watch baseball games?
Posted by Flowbe209 on 3/28/23 at 9:10 pm to bartman217
Nord VPN worked for me last season. Had to change some DNS settings on the Apple TV box to watch games that were blacked out due to local market. Then Hulu wouldn’t work and it took a few days for me to figure out that I needed to change DNS back when I wasn’t watching baseball. Once you get it to work, turn off auto updates and don’t update the MLB app. I plan on trying it again this season.
