Lending shares does not drive the price down.
This is the first I have heard someone argue that short selling doesn’t drive down price. Explain how short selling doesn’t drive down price please.

Tell me, specifically, how it drives the price down.
The people who are borrowing the shares sell them immediately. Sells of a stock cause price to go down.

Short selling drives the price down just as much as regular selling and just as much (inversely) as buying drives it up.
I guess his logic is that there are so many shares available for lending that any individual lending shares (or not lending) doesn’t impact the short pressure. Which is right. In fantasy land where all shares are unavailable for shorting the price is probably higher. But that can’t happen.
If his logic is that “people shorting shares doesn’t impact the price” then that is just straight wrong.

But the more shares available to short, the bigger the target and payday for these large, coordinated shorts.

It'd be interesting to know if any of the institutions that are holding lend their shares.

This thing is the most volatile stock I think I’ve ever followed.

Just looked at the premarket action.
That was a timed bear raid trying to catch stop losses if I have ever seen one. I’m buying $2k now to flip today.

Yeah down 10% on 300K volume, what a joke.

I should've clarified by saying "long term it doesn't affect share price."
When someone borrows shares to sell short, they do sell them immediately which can create downward pressure on the stock price. But the difference with a short seller vs a normal trader is that the short seller HAS to buy the shares back at some point, often within days/weeks. So at the end of the day the net change in shares is 0. Whereas a normal trader who sells may never buy back in.
If I'm thinking about this wrong, would love to be corrected.

Who's swing trading this volatility? I think I'll put 1000 shares into swings just to keep it interesting.
I just hope that 1000 doesn't get caught on the profit taking side when the JV is cemented.

I have enough shares that I can swing a thousand or a few thousand and sidestep the unsettled funds problems with quick turnarounds. The JV seems like it has gotcha potential somewhere up the line though. I don't want to be caught having sold a swing when the JV is sprung on us.
