You can probably get a Discover, Quicksilver, or a Credit Union CC. At a minimum, these will help build your credit history.

You can always try going in to a Chase branch and talking to someone. They may be able to get you approved.

ok how the frick does one get a first credit card

Just got my first. Got a Discover with a $1000 monthly limit. No credit history before. What I said is that I am a student and live with my parents (they didn't care about me living with my parents as much as the fact that I am a student, never asked family household income or anything) and that I work part time (make $2000 annually). Approved the same night. I would go for Discover honestly. It was a painless process.

Damn. I got a Discover at 18 and a Freedom shortly after.

Same here

I have 8 cards now (use 2 other than for special occasions) and am 23.

Good luck Carson.

For CSR rewards, can I pay the balance off each week and still accumulate the points when the statement comes out? I've never used a card strictly to get rewards before and don't want to mess up the 4k spend sign up bonus by paying everything off before the statement comes out.

I just got my card in Monday and my first payment isn't due until May 1st, but I can't stand seeing debt. So I want to pay it off each week.

Who do you bank with up? Open up a CC with them and use it for a couple months and then move on to Chase, Amex, etc

there's also the American Airlines Mastercard from Barclays. You get $40,000 miles for making a purchase and paying the $95 annual fee

You can pay it off every week but it's silly to do so. You aren't going to get the points until the statement is issued. It's also free money as long as you pay the statement balance off on or prior to the due date.

Nothing you do will mess up the spend unless you don't meet the minimum spend requirements in the allotted time or you make late payments.

Which might be a better card in some ways (mainly the airline company) but the spending requirement is probably $2k instead of $500.

Five hundred dollars is so incredible easy to spend that I had to share!

Okay that's what I needed to know.

For my mental sake I can't stand seeing debt on an account so I'll just pay it off every week if it doesn't affect anything.

2 roundtrip flights for $69 on that barclays. Nice.
Will cancelling the card after my first year to avoid the next 69 dollar annual fee impact my credit in a negative way?

the spending requirement is a single purchase so you're looking at $96 ($1 plus the $95 annual fee)

Not enough for it to matter (assuming you already have established credit).

Well I'll be damned. Sweet deal.

EDIT: BARCLAY is shite I did NOT get instant approval for this shitty Frontier card.
Credit Score: 790s
Utilization: 3-5%
What gives?? Is it because I got the Arrival plus in December? That was three months ago!

Does this mean I'm definitely not going to get this card if I'm up for review? or will they actually review it?

Are there any limitations to the two free Hyatt nights?

For example, can I get a suite at the Hyatt Regency at Lake Tahoe with this?

You can use the two free nights at any Hyatt hotel. There's no restriction there.

Usually they just give you the lowest level room available in the hotel, but you can always call to book it instead and see what they'll do for you.

Awesome, thanks.
I'm ok with the $400 room, but I will call to check anyway

If you consistently end up with a zero balance when your statement comes out, it dings your credit a bit.

FYI Cardcash is back to coding as utilities for 5x with Ink.

What's the best redemption with UR for hotels? Is the best way just to go through the UR portal and buy with points that way?

I just met my minimum spending on the AmEx business card - 2 days after my billing statement closed. Do I have to wait a month to get the sign up bonus? Longer? Is there anything I can do to get the points sooner (like pay in advance)? I really need the points so I can book a hotel room.
