Just a heads up it's good practice to proactively lower your limits in advance a few weeks after getting approved so you don't have to worry about this sort of thing.

Any time I get approved by a bank I almost immediately lower it to 10k.

A few solid Hyatts, actually, which is why I'm probably disinclined to use points for the flight unless I can get a sexy business class fare.

How do I go about searching award availability on ANA/United? The few times I've looked, I've found United's website to be unwieldy as hell

Really? I feel like United, even with the changes is my go to. Funny enough ANA is a great search site as well. There's a work around to make that site work well but you can Google "using ANA to search awards" or something like that to explain the steps.

When I was booking Thailand I found ANA flights using United's site rather easily.

And by easily I mean I put hours and hours into but that's because I'm autistic or something and get some sick enjoyment out of searching this stuff.

What kind of point damage should I be expecting for economy and business? I'm on my phone at the moment and generally curious.

Apparently there is a good Hyatt in Tokyo that bloggers like.

I stay at the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo for business. It is a tier 3 but it should be tier 5-6. Downtown Shinjuku and 3min walk to Shinjuku station

If you stay there, I highly recommend spending the extra 5k points for a club room. They have a cocktail hour w free alcohol + solid breakfasr spread. Easily get your $ back

Oh and the club rooms are unbelievable. Seriously, some of the best I've ever stayed at

Also, cultural note don't tip their staff. They get super offended

I can't emphasize enough that staying at Hyatt Regency Tokyo club room will be the best decency you make on your trip if you stay in Tokyo

Might not be the best value but United would be 160k in biz RT per person (320k total)

AmeriKop -- Do you mind sharing some of your MS strategies? Do you have something a little different, or are you using basic strategies? I had a good thing going a while back at a local casino allowing me to purchase chips on a CC, I was racking them up, but I've since moved, unfortunately.

That's not terrible... the lady and I are sitting on a combined 400k or so UR (god bless the 100k Reserve bonus). I'll take a look.

Nice, so would you purchase chips and then just walk around a bit and turn them in for cash?

Something to think about, if you book Hyatt you can often book on points then upgrade to club with cash

If a Regency/grand have a good club room + lounge I go that route If you stay at Regency in Tokyo , again stay in club It is a massive difference and worth it unless you absolutely can't make it work. With breakfast/lounge savings though you should come close to break even

Also, don't take taxis. Trains go everywhere in Tokyo

I actually just started going to WM a couple of times to test it out.. just one $500 each at two diff locations. Had no issues. What was the problem? Were you trying to do several at once?

Yeah, I'd usually buy in for 500 at a time. Play a little, but if I lost more than 30ish id stop (unless I actually wanted to play haha). Id then go out of the casino for a bit to some of the other areas - they had an adult arcade, pool tables, few restaurants, then go back in and cash out. I played it safe at first, but eventually I just got tired of the wait and would only wait about ten minutes. Haha.

The casino was in Iowa, and I've tried at several other to no avail, so I dont think it is something many places do, may have even been an error on the ladies part for allowing me to do it. A couple of girls gave me trouble, but I'd just tell them "so and so let me do it yesterday" and they would cave. Looking for other strategies now besides typical GC>MO>deposit. Would prefer something with a smaller %, as I got spoiled on the 0% at casino. haha

How many times did you do this? Seems like a low payout for an entire trip to the casino
