No I wish we would be on midnight the night before, couldn't make the dates work. We will be arriving at a little before 10 PM local time. We will then stay at a hotel close to the airport, and take the first flight to BOB the next AM. The nice thing is we will steal two days at the resort by arriving the first day at probably 10 AM and leaving at 5 PM on day of departure (11 PM flight from PPT probably)

It expires tomorrow. Think I'm going to pass on it even though the points are tempting.

I am thinking of staying at the IC Tahiti property for 2 days. Since the flights only go on Saturdays from Hawaii, may do the Ambassador and get the 2 weekend night deal with 1 night free. BTW, I emailed the manager at Thalasso and here's what she wrote back:

Here are the benefits for all Gold Ambassador members when booking with points.

A room upgrade to the next level upon availability at check-in
A fruit plate in your villa upon arrival
A daily complimentary bottle of water delivered in your villa
An Ambassador gift
Daily newspaper
Free wireless internet for your entire stay (2 devices maximum)
A late check-out until 4.00 pm upon availability at check-in
Let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Seems like it may be worth the $200 for Ambassador. Since you get there late, this way we can spend a full day in Tahiti as well and you only pay for 1 night with the certificate. Leave early Monday for Bora Bora and leave late Saturday with late check out. Flight back to Hawaii leaves at like 11pm. Get room upgrades at both resorts and all the other goodies

BTW, I've been trying to see any rewards dates in late April and early May and there are none even using the trick. I hope they didn't fix that... It could just be high season and there are no reward rooms available for then. Will probably look to go either in Nov or the following April 2017, but that's so far away

I haven't gotten my card yet. My wife just got bonus points and they are adding the extra 10,000.

That happened to me one week (no rewards were appearing), and then on a Saturday night at 1230 EST the entire next week became available. Just keep looking... I am definitely planning on upgrading to ambassador, but I will probably wait until arrival to do so. This will allow me to somewhat negotiate an upgrade package (theoretically).

Thanks for the email though. They is very informative.

OK... me and my wife are wanting to quit using our debit card for all our purchases and start putting everything on credit cards to earn rewards.

What credit card would be the best choice for us?
We buy lots of gas... over $1k/mth on average
Groceries and eating out a decent bit.
My wife get some business expenses paid but not a lot.

Also, I see yall pair cards up? Im not sure what the right word for it is? Can someone explain what the rationale/thought process behind that is?

And I see where some people buy gift cards then turn around and pay the cc off with the gift card. Is there a certain way to do this and does this work with any card?

Talk to me like I am an idiot cause I basically am when it comes to this stuff. I just hate to leave rewards on the table and continue using the debit card when we can get something out of the deal.

Thanks

I would start out with the chase freedom. Once you start seeing how everything works just apply for another card like the CSP or Barclay arrival plus

I thought about that as well, but figured I could really get the value out of Ambassador by using the free night in Tahiti. Or could go to the resort on Moorea and stay for the weekend. Either way, 1 night free and Ambassador benefits at 2 properties.

What do you want to do with the points/miles? Travel, cash back? That will help you determine what card to start with.

2 cards = 2 sets of bonus points. Me and my wife each got the US Air card before they merged with American. That was 50,000 miles each and they just went to American 1:1. Another way some people like to do it is you get 1 card and then before you go to pay for the annual fee the next year you cancel your card and your wife gets the card so you get the benefits for another year without the annual fee. We're about to do that with my United Visa. I'm canceling mine right before annual fee and wifey will get hers with annual fee waived first year. Now we will have gotten United perks for 2 years without an annual fee and we get 50,000 miles each.

Lots to learn there, someone posted a link earlier on how to do it. Start to crawl, then learn to walk, then run

Also say I get the Chase Freedom like the poster above recommend, do I make my wife an authorized user on the account? Or should she just apply solo from me for her own card?

And by pairing I mean that some posters go with the freedom/csp combo. What's the benefits of doing this?

No I think what you are describing makes perfect sense in your situation. By the way I meant to put 0030 Sunday morning as the release time for me (may have been closer to 0045). I don't know if this was a glitch or a normal occurrence.

After you get the Freedom you have to get the CSP or one of the business cards. Those cards allow you to a) merge the points from your Freedom into one account and b) transfer your points out to airline partners for miles.

The Freedom does not allow you to transfer points out to partners. You have to combine it with a premium card to get that benefit.

Does my wife get one in just her name for both cArds? Or do I just add her as an authorized user so we are tied to the same account?

And do I just go ahead and apply for both at the same time?

You get 2X the bonus if you both signup for the card and meet the minimum spend. You can transfer points to your spouses account.

I'd like to take a moment to pour out a little for the no fee Sapphire. I can't think of any combo I would prefer to my Freedom/Sapphire/Ink Plus.
