Buying it tomorrow for a dividend in and of itself is a terrible strategy.

It goes Ex-Dividend tomorrow.
If you want the Dividend you needed to buy today, tomorrow is too late.

Depends on your goal. If you want to get in and out quickly you can snag the dividend and sell on the next green day.

Seems like a terrible strategy to me.

I also hate the look of this stock. Looks like it’s at an all time low because they’ve halted their dividend hiking for 4 years and still have a payout ratio over 100%.

Cracker Barrel went woke when they threw out their Duck Dynasty merchandise several years back. Go woke, go broke.

The restaurant business is pretty brutal.

Labor costs are high.
Food costs are high.
Most sales is $50.

Keep looking. If you want a dividend look at tobacco stocks like MO. They can raise prices.

For dividends I’m looking at BMY and VZ

When is the last time any of y’all ate at a Cracker Barrel?

A few weeks back.

Everyone I drive by, the parking lot is full. Most of them are by an Interstate. Smart location. Some are inner city.

I wonder how much of their sales comes from the merch and not the food? Every time I go to pay for my food seems there is some woman buying an arm full of merch.

This is like depositing $65 in your checking account so you can take out $1.30 tomorrow, only the remaining 63.70 is in a bank that seems like a dumpsterfire. To be a more accurate analogy, I guess you would have to be taxed on the withdrawel.

Pretty much spot on. Add to it you will probably be losing that 1.30 payment every quarter here pretty soon.

CBRL up 1.75 percent today while the rest of the market is crashing.
And that sweet $1.30 a share dividend soon to be deposited into my account.

Dow Down 560
Nasdaq down 310.

Doubt the Barrell at your Peril.!

So this is interesting,

It closed at $59.16 today

If you had bought at exactly when OP made thread, at $62.49, you'd be down -5.3%, add back 1.30 dividend and you'd be down -3.2% overall, with a taxable income now.

If you had bought at exactly 24hrs later on ex-dividend, at $60.56, you'd be down -2.3%, with losses only as far as tax implications.

So this is interesting,

I added to my position today at 56.90, it's now 59.
In the Green brother !

Two months ago it was 82.
52 week high in the 120's.
Upside is much greater than downside I would think.
If it sits here and treads water it is still paying a $5.20 annual dividend.

People hate to buy beaten down stocks.
People said the same thing when I bought T/VZ at decades low a year ago, not they are both up 30 percent or so.
People laughed about me buying Silver earlier this year and it is up 50 percent from where I purchased less than 12 months ago.
People were hating on facebook 18 months ago when it was at a decades low price.

Everyone loves to buy stocks after they go up, I prefer to buy before they go up.

Will CBRL be one of these winners ? Who knows ?
Time will tell, you can't knock em all out of the park
