My man what you doing? Let the Mexicans and Chinese build these things damn. We don’t want to build iPhones for a living.

American manufacturing is such a sham. You want us to live like the manufacturing powerhouses like Bangladesh and China? I don’t want to live in a shack breaking my back for this.

Most of the Honda Civics sold in the U.S. are made in Indiana.

If he's "loaded" it's because he married a medical doctor. He has posted she's the breadwinner in their marriage.

Yuuuuuup new and even used cars have jumped significantly in the last week. I’ve never seen a used car jump up 6k in a day before like what is going on?

I remember republicans said dems will force us into pods and own nothing… seems like both will force us to own nothing soon

Based off your numerous whining posts, I am convinced your wife has a strap-on and pegs your buttocks on the regular.

Can you just relax and quit freaking out like a teenage girl

Lowering the cost of cars should be a big focus of any US administration. We are a car dependent society, and higher car costs ripple through everyone’s pocket book.

Financing a depreciable asset is always a bad idea. When the average cost of a new car is $47,000 more and more people will be forced to finance.

Higher cost of cars mean higher insurance costs because collision claims run much higher.

We are hyper sensitive to gas prices in the US but have largely ignored the runaway cost of new cars as a matter of policy. The cost of transportation for Americans is skyrocketing and depressing people’s ability to save or invest.

all good points. Probably great reasons to get other countries to drop their tariffs on american products and we can reduce prices on everything.

There’s a rush to buy cars right now in fear of the tariffs. Horrible feeling since the market has now already dictated that prices go up. Same car a month ago is actually noticeably cheaper than today

I’d rather see deregulation that allows car companies to sell direct to consumers without going through independent dealerships, loosening of fuel efficiency standards, car models with minimal digital haptics and driver assistance technology, and perhaps incentives for making smaller cars.

I don’t think a trade war is the right tool for the job.

But I’m stupidly out of touch with what Americans want in a car. I want no touch screens or digital haptics whereas Americans seem to want a full TV in their dashboard.

All this makes way too much sense.

1st part is big and something I wish Tesla would have changed for other manufacturers using their model but the Stealership network is just too engrained into existing brands and even in some states has to be a dealer sell you a car which is insanity.

The EPA standards were always way too ambitious and never applied well to begin with. The mileage companies need to hit now and coming up were laughable and to get around them they just build bigger and bigger vehicles that meet different categories to get around actually needing to build more efficient vehicles.

It's crazy to me back in the 1990s there were gas only vehicles getting in the 50mpg range and it takes these more complicated hybrid vehicles to even sniff that these days. The 1992-1995 Honda Civic VX was a trim level dedicated to squeezing the most fuel efficiency out of the Civic at that time and it was rated for 44 city/51 highway....with only a gas engine. The newest model HYBRID is rated for 50 city, 47 highway while the gas only model gets 32 city, 41 highway in the best mileage trim.

Dont worry though, any manufacturer will be happy to sell you an equivalent electric vehicle for $15k-$20k more than the equivalent gas model and tell you about the $1k-$2k you'll save a year on gas vs. charging electric.

Also the driver assistance tech has gotten so out of control annoying. We got my wife a '22 MDX last summer and turn all that stuff off basically. The lane keep, lane departure, automatic breaking (REALLY annoying), auto stop/start, kill it all off. It makes driving awful and is just a bunch of shite that makes what used to be typically cheap repairs into super expensive ones. My wife needed anew winshield a few weeks ago and the windshield replacement was only $300. It was ANOTHER $500 to "calibrate" the camera systems for the tech that was attached to the windshield, and that takes them hours to do. $800 for a new fricking windshield. When I was in high school back in early-mid 00's I got the windshield replaced in my 1990 Honda Accord for $100

Stuff like that is why I'm so hesitant to get my 2014 Accord replaced. 1 That car still has just under 100k miles on it. 2. I maybe drive 3k-5k miles a year in it for the last several years. 3. Newer cars are just so damn expensive and expensive to repair with so many things that just go wrong with them all the time now.

Newer features than what my car has I actually like/use are basically

1. Android Auto/Apple Carplay
2. Radar cruise control (only for long road trips though)

Thats about it.
