..wut? Testing is hardly relevant. The virus is fatal to the non-elderly or immunocompromised at a rate of ~0.1-.0.3%. If you are younger than 80 and/or not immune compromised this is no different than a mild URI.

The most effective measure is the exact same as most other rough cold/flu seasons... taking the normal special precautions around the vulnerable. Washing your hands is effective prevention in a healthcare setting, where its most likely to spread. The virus will fizzle out by June because its a coronavirus, they are seasonally winter. That means US being late to the game, US will have a greatly mitigated peak impact.

Question, why does testing matter when there is no cure?

It doesnt really. Tests just make people feel warm inside.
And only the most severe cases are getting tested. The vast majority of people with mild or non-existing symptoms are not going to volunteer for quarantine, or even realize they may have the virus lmao.
The virus is much more widespread than we expect, but its also much less dangerous than the kool-aid drinkers suggest.

People are going to make tons of money on the volatility and fear mongering, many folks will also lose money in the market because of the fear mongering.

Mortality rate spikes in confirmed cases for those above age 50 and increases exponentially by decade

A mortality rate that high for people 50+ would be a Significant problem and should be a concern

A mortality rate so high, significant, and concerning that the average death age is 80...

no duh the death rate gets much worse the older you get, you quoted me saying its a problem for old vulnerable people.
0-50s - irrelevant
60 - minimally relevant
70s - Relevant.
80s - a concern.
90s - not looking great

Question, why does testing matter when there is no cure? Further, why does testing matter when the country seems to want to self quarantine now anyway? Lastly, if we are going to shut everything down, like it appears to be, being 10-12 days behind doesn't matter, does it?

First, wide spread testing allows the 80% with mild symptoms to isolate. This can reduce disease spread. It also drives home the seriousness of this virus. No one wants the country to take measures beyond what is necessary. Second, if you have wide spread testing with communication about prevention and reporting, then hopefully you avoid shutdowns and overwhelming hospitals. Lastly, since we lack testing and basic safety supplies for medical staff and first responders, an early shutdown to reduce spread and to allow supplies to catch up makes sense.

Trump made the right choice about shutting down travel to China. He should have added S.Korea, Italy, and Iran to that list two weeks ago. He shouldn’t be carving loopholes for Europe which is just screwed.

Going with a position in XLU to start.

Will probably pick up some REITs as well.

Just announced that facilities here have just enough kits to test sick patients. Little asymptomatic testing going on.

For the past two months all I've been hearing is the US is 10-12 days behind.

Doesn't appear to be based on anything.

I find it highly unlikely we kept the virus out that much longer compared to Europe.

I think it has been here a lot longer than we think.

Also, I could end all the selling today if I liquidated my accounts. That would ensure a 20% move to the upside.

I only see their princess brand has been cancelled. Are you sure it’s all brands?

I just checked, you are correct, I will edit. I read that on another forum, and assumed it was true. Only Princess currently, but feel sure that Carnival will.
