No problem with Nickelback getting a small 3 year deal after he takes the cats to the sweet sixteen. Dont believe hes a sleeping giant coach because he needs a bit more experience. However, this gives woodward time and he may talk one of these five stars that just decommited back to LSU.

I'd take David Richman from North Dakota State

A proven coach who’s like second tier. Probably on the older side

If we expect decent sanctions-Andy Kennedy

If we expect minimal then the field is wide open.

I suspect the latter.

Firing Wade was a way for Scott to deal with the ncaa and get “his” guy in

It is incredibly difficult to guess who the next hire might be. There is no big name out there other than Tony Bennett with an "home" connections such as Mulkey to Louisiana and Buzz Williams to Texas. The basketball program probably doesn't have the "cache" of the football and baseball programs, particularly with possible sanctions looming, Woodward could use to pull an accomplished HC from a good spot such as Kelly and Jay Johnson. Woodward has never show any inclination to go after mid-major HC's other than Chris Peterson, who spent over a decade beating P5 programs.

I think Tony Bennett is the #1 target and LSU will make a VERY strong run at him and, more importantly, his wife. Should he turn the job down then it is anyone's guess.

Perhaps Brad Underwood is not happy at Illinois. That said, his alma mater, K-State, is also open.

Rick Pitino is probably too "shady" (and old). Kevin Sampson can flat out coach and he has done pretty well with rosters comprised of a lot of Texas and Louisiana guys. Dana Altman could be that out of left field candidate (like Kelly) if he is for some reason looking for a change of scenery and LSU were to make him a huge offer.

But assuming Bennett is a no go and Woodward is hell-bent on hiring a major HC, I think he goes back to the Notre Dame well and hires Mike Brey. Brey has had some pretty good ND teams. And like Kelly, he may be looking for more access to players he couldn't recruit to ND

Golden from San Fran would be a solid hire.

Nickelback was division one HC for a dozen+ years. He's far from inexperienced.

The Semjase choice from 2008. Fast forward 14 years and he's still my 1A choice.

I wanted 1B Musselman back when he left LSU Basketball Hell (2 x NBA HC sitting on the bench being ignored by Johnny Jones) and went to Nevada.

He makes around 2 million a year now. Big dick AD is willing to pay for a good coach. Keep your eye on Few!
