Since 1980:
TAMU vs. Texas 15 - 15
Mich St. vs. Michigan: 9 - 21
is precisely, and the only, point I was making. You can dismiss TAMU all you want, but Michigan St. is lesser by the VERY yard stick you have chosen.

I can. I bet the team won't, though.

I understand what your saying, but as far as the national media is concerned a Big 10 match up against a higher ranked team is more favorable.
I have nothing against aTm nor do I support MS. However based on their current record, rank in the BCS, and conference outcome it is logical to assume any Big 10 Co-Champion would benefit LSU more.

Very valid point and I agree. Considering how much the media loves Boise State bc they beat OU a couple of years ago, a victory over a media favorite could help us with rankings.
This isn't a huge factor, but I think it might be good for our players to experience Jerry World before Oregon game.

If you compare OU & Texas historically to LSU, LSU is not elite either. Just saying.
Agreed. And that's why I will always give credit to what Saban did here. He made LSU elite. We went from an ATM type program to elite. Always remember that.

LSU played little sister to everyone in the late 80s and 90s.
I know it cracks you up to keep saying this over and over again. But LSU has 2 BCS titles, and four 10 win seasons in the last 6 years and has been to a few BCS games.
Just because we floundered in the 90s, it does not mean we aspire to be a loser program like A & M. You guys may match up and even give us a good game, but to think that you can come here and trash talk like you actually belong in the same league as us tells me how retarded your fans are.

Yeah, I suppose, but the Cotton Bowl is the only bowl that day while there are six on New Year's day. And it's on national TV (FOX) rather than being on ESPN. Also, the game is in Jerry World, and we all know how Jerry Jones likes to make a spectacle of things. I'm sure it will be heavily promoted.

And didn't Saban start building on seasons like the one A&M is having this year? knocking off higher ranked teams hear and there.

I would love LSU to play in the Cotton Bowl over the Cap One due to the location and the quality of the venue. More importantly though is the match up against the other team. Had aTm not accepted the invite and it was really the OU/Neb loser then I would go with this game no matter what. Just aTm won't appeal to the masses.

I was in the stadium when Leland McElroy ran all over us.
I remember when his daddy, Hugh McElroy, ran all over LSU in a 20-18 victory in 1970 - one of only two games A & M won that year. Never take A & M lightly. I'm actually pumped for this game. Time for the Aggie jokes!

Apparently they don't remember that LSU was irrelevant through 90's when A&M was 9th winningest program in the country.
Im 21 but have watched every game since 1994
The A&M loss in 94 was the first game I went too.
we lost to the in 95 too.
I caught the end of the rivalry
With that being said A&M is not what they used to be and they were never great save the years 90-94 they are strictly average.

I think this is what's driving this:
LSU has been "owned" historically (defined as a string of consecutive losses) by a few teams, most notably Alabama and Florida, but with the success of the last 10 years, LSU has been able to avenge these series with a pretty good string of wins lately.
That leaves three teams that have "owned" LSU with a series of wins over consecutive years, which LSU has NEVER been able to avenge: Florida St., Nebraska, and Texas A&M. Of these three, Texas A&M is the most recent (91-95), and the deepest (5 straight years). THAT is why so many welcome the chance to beat the Aggies.

Yeah, I am mad at the Cotton Bowl for not offering it to OU/Neb loser instead and let A&M travel out to Sea World and play Arizona in the Holiday.

oh the young kid thread again

I can't understand why anyone would be "down" on a potential matchup with A&M.
For you folks who have never experienced an LSU/A&M game... take my word for it: it is FUN!!
There's historical friction between the two, we're in neighboring states, and the two universities are probably more similar to each other than any other school.
The Aggies are weird and relentless, too... they are AWESOME opponents.
This matchup will be EPIC, and a GREAT and exciting way to end the season. I am totally looking forward to the Cotton Bowl, if it comes through.
I realize that some of you out there in Tigerdroppingsland haven't had the joy of beating A&M yet. Just take my word for it... there's few things in football more fun than beating A&M. You'll see.

There is truth in your assessment. However, does a larger following always equal getting recruits or more revenue?
The media would favor a LSU victory over a Big 10 Champion a lot better then a victory over aTm. I understand the history, the date and available audience, and the opposition. I still have to favor a Cap One against the Big 10 over the Cotton.

You guys keep saying this, but you are freakin nuts. As far as a matchup goes, LSU/A&M is going to generate much more interest than LSU/Michigan State for many reasons. It's the only game that day in a prime time spot, it's a regional game between the Big12 and the SEC in the cotton bowl where LSU hasn't played in a while as opposed to the Cap One where LSU just played, it's being held in a brand new stadium, but most of all...that was a HUGE rivalry in the recent past. I can't believe it's been so long that people forget the absolute hatred these two programs had for each other.
It will be good to get this W against A&M because in the near future they are going to be relevant again simply because they will be playing in a much easier conference with the loss of Neb and Colorado from the Big12.
Yeah, they have sucked recently, but that won't last.
