But we beat SMU in New Orleans. That's got to count for something.

Nepotism rarely works and Auburn basketball shows that by a mile.
it really is crazy.

His entire basketball career is because who his dad is. He never played or coached for anyone other than his dad and yet they thought giving him the job was the way to go.

I’d be losing it LSU pulled something like that

I was a McMahon optimist.....I got off that train pretty early in SEC play, but this team never had a chance late in the season. McMahon has assembled a roster of not great talent, he has failed to prepare them, he has failed.

We cant do simple basketball things, or I suppose we still cant, I have not watched the last handful of games.

Bruce retired in September...a few weeks before preseason practice started. Auburn wasn't going to be able to hire a coach from outside the program at that time. He's been on the staff throughout Auburn's great run over the last several years. So its understandable that's who would be elevated to HC under those circumstances.

His base salary is $3M per year...which puts him near the bottom of the SEC. It's a 5 year deal (which isn't outrageous) and the buyout for early termination would be 50% of the remaining base salary. Could AU have tagged him as the interim and revisited at the end of the season? Sure. I bet they are kind of wishing they did. But I can understand why they would want to maintain continuity and keep Bruce in good graces given the success the program has had

Yea something had to have gone down over there. Pearl Sr. making what could be seen as controversial comments then pretending to run for office right around the time he quit then leaving Auburn with no options to replace him. That strikes me as inner turmoil between him and either boosters or admin, maybe even both. Maybe he just wanted to force his son into the HC spot, Just a weird situation and set them up for failure.

SMU isn't very good-- they're a notch or two beneath tPear's own NC State unit.

He's a guy from the Netherlands who has ZERO affiliation with LSU other than being the CEO of OLOL for the last 1.5 years. His opinion on what is best for LSU sports should have no bearing whatsoever.

If anything, if your company is going to be affiliated with the basketball program, including the anticipated naming sponsor of a new basketball arena, wouldn't you want the basketball program to be really good in order to get a better return on your advertising investment? What company would want to spend millions to have their brand associated with another brand that has done nothing but fail? What benefit is that investment to put signage on the court/arena when (1) no one sees it in person because no one is attending the games and (2) the TV broadcasts have been banished to the nether regions of the internet because no one is watching it?

That would be like paying millions to the guys from Weekend at Bernie's to be your spokesmen on an 11:00 pm CSPAN broadcast

LSU is horrible no doubt. But wow Bruce Pearl's son has destroyed Auburn's program quickly

Not surprising, Bruce repaid Auburn for hiring him when no one else would and giving him his third chance by pretty much forcing them through timing and other pressures to hire his unqualified son that I'm sure the players don't have much respect for. Results not surprising.

Alabama being really good to elite some years is just as weird to me.
